Hi,

I am a noob to this but have no problem installing Cyanogen versions to this phone. Getting into Clockwork and having it install the ZIP completes and I clear data/cache and reboot. From then on its LGM

all the way. I bought this OLED version secondhand and it had a modaco ROM on it so it must be something I am doing/not doing. Any ideas?

I've read that post a few times....but can't work out what the question is!? :|

I think LGM all the way means the green android? It sounds like you need to upgrade to GEN2. GEN1 to GEN2 TPT

If I'm wrong, apologies, but as ThrashMan said, it's a little hard to understand the post. :D

EDIT: shadowninty beat me to it

Sorry the heading seems to have disappeared. Basically I cant get kitchen roms to run even though they do install. I used Ask Mr Pigfish with my cyanogen installation and it says gen 2.

That's cos your Gen2

Those MoDaCo ROMs are really outdated

They probably are outdated but that does not explain why they wont run. I'm certain one of the kitchen roms was on the phone when i bought it.

Gen 1 roms WILL NOT work on GEN 2

O.K

I bought the phone second hand and it had a modaco rom running. I changed this to cyanomod which works fine. I would like to have the benefit of both but none of the roms cooked in the kitchen run though they install ok. I have cleared cache etc but it does not help. Sweedish spring has just installed but it is the only one. Is there some tweak I am missing/

Let me get that straight. You claim your Blade is Gen2. You also claim it has Modaco Custom ROM running? This didn't add up, it even contradicts itself. Modaco Custom ROM ist Gen1 and Gen1 only. There is no way you could let MCR running on a Gen2 device.

Which version of cyanogenmod are you running?

CM7. android version2.3.4.. It definitly was running a modaco rom with the correct splashscreen. I asked the owner where he got it from the url he sent me is the rom kitchen address. Quote from ebay ad I bought it from "Its an Android phone currently running a 2.2 MoDaCo ROM, unlocked and rooted with A2SD installed" As far as gen 1 or 2 is concerned Mr pigfish says its gen2

Install Green v3, who cares what ROM was on your phone. It clearly cannot have been the one from the kitchen.

I think maybe the phone came to you with GEN1, but you used a TPT to install Cyanogen, converting to GEN2 in the process. That would explain why Swedish Spring and Cyanogen work, but no others do. Did you install Cyanogen with a TPT from here?

curl66's TPTs

That's why then, you've changed to gen2 to run CM7 hopefully by the tpt method. If so read the thread about tpt upgrade from gen 1 to gen 2 and go back to gen1 using the tpt there and then you can load the old roms.

I might have got it

He bought the phone with a custom modaco 2.2 rom installed. (assuming its GEN 1 at this stage)

He then installed CM7( by which i assume he used one of the TPT methods which converted his phone to gen 2)

He now cant install and of the Modaco 2.2 roms (which are for Gen 1) but he can install Swedish Spring (which works on Gen 2)

He wants to know why gen 1 roms wont work on gen 2

Am i right? :D

Yes I think I did - an image file that basically self installs? I dont know enough to fully understand TPT .Is there a TPT method that will allow me install these roms and takes care of the gen2 to gen1 conversion?

Yeah, it definitely sounds like that's what you've done. In that case, you can use the TPT in wbaw's thread, here, and if you scroll down to the section Going Back to Gen1, you will find instructions there. That will allow you to install the older ROMs, however if you are unsure, then I would recommend you stick with Swedish Spring.

Yes you have solved the problem. The fact that Mr pigfish told me I had gen2 was the problem but now I know why. I will convert back to gen1 just to try that rom again. Thanks guys.

Thanks for your help. That link did the trick and now the rom is running perfectly.

Lol...

Well, by installing Cyanogenmod, you automatically upgraded your Blade to Gen2. That's why the Modaco Kitchen ROM's won't work (they were designed to work on Gen1).

As to why Gen1 ROM's don't work with Gen2... it's probably because the Gen2 'upgrade' unlocks certain hardware functions on the Blade... and while they are not exactly 'large' changes, they ARE rather important to the way the radio communicates to certain networks (and existing software probably has to be recompiled so it would use the unlocked hardware properly - otherwise, the software won't know how to use the hardware).

Bottom line is... I think you are better off with keeping the Gen2 and just install any of the Gen2 compatible ROM's (such as CM, FLB, SS...).

CM7's most recent nightly seems to fix plenty of issues and Psylod's 'lighter' Green (v3 now) version seems to be pretty solid.
