Modding Apk's Via Winrar Console

Hey there;

I have tried modifying an .apk file using winrar, without "unzipping" the apk, and just directly editing its contents.

So I delete three (.ttf) files and replace them with corresponding .ttf files, with the original names.

I then go to install the .apk manually from my blade, but it just says "application not installed"

Does anyone know what I'm missing out here?

Things to note when adding the images using WinRAR make sure the settings are "update mode = add and replace files" and "compression method = normal".

I checked that, and its of no use :D

Is using winrar only possible when using it to modify images?

(should compression method be rar or zip?)

I use Android Commander to push & pull files from the phone & this has a signing facility although I have not tried it yet!

Except you can't open androidmanifest.xml because it gets frazzled when it gets put inside an apk. You'd need yet another tootl to open it.

But it works create for pulling the old switcharoo on files :D

Use apktool it can do pretty much anything you might want to do with apk's

apktool can't handle many system APKs.

just try to decompile SS RLS 5 settings.apk and see how many errors you'll encouter! (I needed to do that to translate SS but it just can't do it)
