Guest ValiantSaint Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 Hi everyone, after coming from a Nokia 5800 that had a pretty good Sat Nav program on it, I'm running struggling to find a replacement from my Blade, that doesn't need an internet connection. I have tried Navit, but it keeps rebooting my phone (Even after a reinstall) Are there any suggestion as to what I could try next? Many thanks in advance : )
Guest Psyloid Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 i dont think so, tried navit as well. it failed on my phone too .....

Guest ValiantSaint Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 Thanks to you all for your wonderful assistance : )
Guest Sanddancer75 Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Sorry to take things slightly off-topic, but how do sat-navs cope with phone calls? The maps on my Garmin stand-alone sat-nav are getting old & I was thinking of using my phone. What happens to the navigation when someone calls you though?
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Co-Pilot is about £30 for european maps. And should work entirely offline as you have to download a ****load of map data to your SD card to get it working. Google Maps Navigation always worked for me offline, as long as you do your input when connected to data, you can turn it off during the journey (eg, connect to wifi at home and input your destination on Navigation before you leave)
Guest rwalton159 Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 (edited) Tried a few and co-pilot is the best. Edited June 5, 2011 by rwalton159
Guest rapidone Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Navit is the only free Android navigation app that runs with gps only and doesn't need an internet connection. More information: http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Navit_on_Android
Guest Pondlife Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Tried a few and co-pilot is the best. The question asks for free "offline" sat nav though.
Guest sitic Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 here is a adapted navit.xml for the blade, it's from the german user Paladin. It includes a better OSD, augmented font, autozoom, nightly and car design. I don't know if it works with the english version, if were any problems you should better ask Paladin...navit.zip

Will it make Navit work on my phone, though? (Because at the moment, I'm getting nowhere with it!)
Guest Amit.V Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 I am using iGo here, very good :) where can i download igo from? can't find it in the market.
Guest Kris Dee Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 I tried Navigon, Copilot, Igo and Sygic. Newest Sygic 11.0.1 wins big time, has Tele Atlas maps 2011 q1 You can try for free 7 days https://market.android.com/details?id=com.s...e=search_result
Guest Searcher2 Posted June 29, 2011 Report Posted June 29, 2011 I tried Navigon, Copilot, Igo and Sygic. Newest Sygic 11.0.1 wins big time, has Tele Atlas maps 2011 q1 https://market.android.com/details?id=com.s...e=search_result I tired Sygic 11.0.2 and it does look good and starts up fast... but I planned a trip to the other side of town and it reckoned that the journey would be 6 minutes to do 5.8 miles. Now considering none of the roads it was taking me on had a speed limit of over 30mph this was pretty incredible. Shame really as I would like to have tried it but failed at first test. Looks like I am back to Motonav - but trying iGO MyWay to see if there is any difference. If anyone know the best iGo version (MyWay, MotoNav, Amigo) for the SF it would save me some time.
Guest pitprop Posted July 3, 2011 Report Posted July 3, 2011 here is a adapted navit.xml for the blade, it's from the german user Paladin. Tried this and it does not work - causes navit to freeze when searching for towns/addresses. Navit is currently rubbish for navigation as it does not find many UK towns never mind addresses or postcodes. The one time i did get it to find a location to navigate to , it tried to take me down farm tracks. Hopefully it will get better but at the moment its only useful for showing your position on a map ( using offline maps - so no data charges). Oh , and navit didn't work at all when i got it from android marketplace and tried to let it download UK maps itself ( i had to manually download a map area off streetmaps and rename/save it to the sd card to get it to work at all) Its free - but don't waste your time.
