Guest theguv Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 (edited) Since LG seems to be slow with the update that brings mkv and h264 l4.1 playback to the P990, I though of installing the korean 10s rom. I know other people have tried this and succeeded, but I also read that the rom is only partly in english? Could someone who has had it installed confirm whether it is useable on the P990? (Language, phone calls, gps, etc. working) Edit: ok I've installed it. Bugs: -Rotating screen to landscape mode makes the picture rotate the wrong way in most apps, you end up with pages being upside down. (Apps which don't have portrait mode like video player and games work right though) -Lots of crappy apps included (some of which work, some of which don't, most of them only korean. (Can be removed manually though I suppose) -thinks i've got 12 gb free on internal sd (WTF?) Awesome: -mkv support finally! Plays most 720p mkvs I've tested, does not work if header compression is used during muxing (just like basically all harware players out there like pch, wdtv, etc.) Many of them lag a little unfortunately, but if overclocking would be possible I'm sure they would be just fine. -plays surround sound, both ac3 and dts! (of course downmuxed to mono/stereo when playing on the phone, have not tested what the hdmi outputs) -menus are generally smoother (according to my impression at least) -no usb debugging sound Rotation bug is kind of a dealbreaker, otherwise it is impressive, I'm looking forward to either LG's official european rom or to a custom rom with apps removed, rotation bug fixed and overclocking enabled! I'll go back to MCR until then. Edited June 5, 2011 by theguv
Guest kruppin Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 I tried this today also, if it wasn't for the rotation bug, and some other minor stuff, I could've run this.. It's a litte boring not to have swedish menus, but not a dealbreaker. Hopefully though, there will the be same improvements for our P990 soon too. And talking about soon, some danish site reported Gingerbread release in one to two weeks! :D

I don't think that danish thing was about gingerbread, just a "regular" update. I think we'll get the same features the korean rom has. Hopefully it will contain a newer kernel (with sources) so that the cyanogenmod people can sort out that stupid lag, then we'll have gingerbread :D.

Can you show Mediainfo output of the 720p MKV files that played smoothly and the ones that stuttered?

I'm sorry, but I did unfortunately not take any notes on what files I tested and now I'm back on mcr :/. Edited June 6, 2011 by theguv
