Bricked Galaxy S2

Hi All

I am new to android, having just moved over from iphone. I had no place playing around. Basically, I rooted the phone, then I used root explorer (downloaded from the market) to edit the build.prop file. I changed a few settings (just the name of the device, as my device was unsupported with mlb.tv).

After I went to reboot, it would not load. All i get is the load screen for a few seconds, then it switches off. I have tried factory reset (by going to recovery mode), but after that it reboot to the same error screen before switching off. The error screen is just the load screen with a yellow warning triangle at the bottom.

Can someone tell me what to do, or point me in the right direction? I am a real newbie to android, so I will need step by step help. I don't care about any of the data - i just want to phone working again.

Someone please help!! I'm freaking out here. Not sure if i'll be stuffing around with root things again.

ps: i cannot get into download mode; the only mode i can get into is recovery mode.

1st dont do anything else to phone till someone like paul or simular gives advice.... the fact you get an error screen is good, most probably means its fixable..... not owning a GS2 i dont know the info to give you, but a general heads up if phone still is seen by pc its normally fixable :D oh it may help if you post in the GS2 forum (if u aint already) regards Gary

OK. I have made some progress on my own, but I am going to stop now. I am so far out of my depth here with android, it isn't funny.

If i press the home,power and volume down buttons i can get to odin mode.

i assume i can just now reload some sort of a rom that will sort things out?

yup, computer recognizes it (and so does odin) and the battery is still charging. all good signs.

i may take a while to respond (if i have to pop out), but i'm grateful for any responses :D

yep if you get to odin mode is good! theres a debrand guide in GS2 section and back to o2 that uses odin, but please wait till paulobrien or simular says it ok as i repeat I dont have a GS2 and aint sure of steps

I've got to go out for a bit now.

I should also add that the build.prop file was backed up automatically.

As for my knowledge, I've had this phone for a week. I don't know anything about ADB, but would be willing to learn. I'm not useless with computers, but not great either. Hopefully it can be fixed through odin somehow!

my android experimentaing days might be over :D that was too stressful.

thats GOOD, why not give the steps to help any other GS2 owners?
