Guest cacoe Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Also if the answer is yes, which ROM should I use, if there are still some small niggles, I could probably live with that depending on what they are...
Guest Dezire Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Also if the answer is yes, which ROM should I use, if there are still some small niggles, I could probably live with that depending on what they are... I've upgraded from 2.2 Swedish to CM7Green V3.1 - and I have been testing it all day with very few niggles - actually it flies along when compared to 2.2! The only slight niggle that I have which should be fixed on the next upload is the camera lag and slight fuzziness. Like you I was dubious about Rom'in Gingerbread - but it's leaps ahead. Ps. battery is still in the 90's whilst playing with it all afternoon!
Guest cacoe Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 You know what, I'm just going to go for it. I've been waiting for 3 months now!
Guest ThrashMan Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Use the official N88 from CM.....it's spot on! (Except you might get 1 reboot after using GPS for the first time but that can be fixed using a patch in the forums)

Guest targetbsp Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 I'm in the N88 is perfect camp but others disagree so yeah I think you'll just have to do what it sounds like you;re going to do and try it. :D

Guest ThrashMan Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 reports of Random crashes from various posters means SS5 is still probably just squeezing it. You can't trust everyone to wipe their device before installing a new ROM though :D
Guest targetbsp Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 reports of Random crashes from various posters means SS5 is still probably just squeezing it. Like I said, you need to try it though. I honestly haven't had CM7 crash on me since the late 30's. And in any froyo thread you'll find several people complaining about that particular froyo. So I don't think you can write CM7 off because some people have issues when that's the case with any rom. What works for some doesn't seem to work for others, presumably depending on the features or apps they use or something. All these roms seem to be a case of YMMV.

Are the camera issues fixed? Edited June 5, 2011 by Dezire
Guest ColdEmbrace Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Is CM7Green V3.1 based on the official N88 or shall I upgrade? Are the camera issues fixed? It's based off a self build with all the relevant updates that are in N88 basically it N88 just custom made instead of by CM
Guest m_w_clarke Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 It's based off a self build with all the relevant updates that are in N88 basically it N88 just custom made instead of by CM I feel there are ALOT of conflicting/complementary threads on here with CM7 ROMS, that I cant seperate the wheat from the chaff. Could someone give the link to this "best N88" build? Thanks guys.
Guest Nathorr Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 (edited) I've been using CM7 since they moved to 2.3.4. Now I use N88 with kalt_kaffes GPS-patch and everything is working fine. I can totally recommend it! I haven't missed Android 2.2 (JJ, FBL, SS) ever since. Camera - working Proximity - working GPS - working (altought I've tested it just for a sec) WiFi - working 3G - working Accelometer - working. I can't say much about battery life because I just installed it in this afternoon, but with N85 without Tasker (didn't work for some reason, I had to do full wipe to get it work) it was pretty good, IMO equal to SS RLS5. Guest jurrasstoil Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Switching Roms takes 10 minutes tops. Check it out, try it for a day or two, if you don't like it, restore your old rom.
Guest Lister Of Smeg Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Hi All, Everyone is sayin N88 is the best CM7 so far...?? However I cant comment, as it doesnt work for me!! :D First download of it, RomManager said it was corrupted :D Downloaded again, and it installed fine, but failed to boot past the green droid. Downloaded again, installed again, same issue, does not get past green droid. I've done this from an upgrade, and as a fresh install, same issues... :o I am Gen1, and used the Converter...? Am guessing the Converter needs updating...?? Thanks, Lister

Thanks, Lister If you are Gen1 - first use TPT method to convert to GEN2. once in GEN2 CM7.0.3, then use N88 update. for N88 update - Try without using RomManager. Use the hardware keys to enter ClockMod and then install from zip. (after factory reset, clearing cache, clearing davik cache). Edited June 5, 2011 by rockstarszzzz
Guest Lister Of Smeg Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Hi rockstarszzzz, Thanks for your prompt/friendly reply... :D However, I dont want to convert to Gen2 if I can help it yet, as I cant see it offering me any advantages (other than CM7 on Gen2, for which there appears to be the odd issue here and there). Data speeds dont really effect me here, in UK. I'd prefer to stick to Gen1 (unless forced to switch by lack of Dev for Gen1, but that still seems ok at mo) as there is more choice... :D I did both in Rom Manager, and via CWM... both as an upgrade, and by clean factory reset... Must jus be a bug either with my ZTE as predicted in another post... or with the ROM, on my device.. :D Will wait to see what the next nightly does... :( :o Cheers, Lister

TPT has been known to brick phones - i.e. if power was lost while doing the Transfer. Unlikely but not as "safe" as doing a ROM changeover.
Guest Jetba Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 hah. clockwork can brick phones too, if power is lost. I am using green, witch is good enought for me.
Guest Shieraz Shah Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 (edited) CM_green_v3.1! :D Edited June 6, 2011 by Shieraz Shah
Guest targetbsp Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 I think some of the mirrors for N88 were corrupt so Rom Manager will struggle. It's been superceeded now by N92 and N93 which haven't had hardly anything changed so should work the same as N88 except download correctly. Ofc, you do need gen 2 though! Or the converter but I dunno how up to date it is.
Guest Grain Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 clockwork can brick phones too, if power is lost. No. "Bricking" means breaking the device for good (despite noobs using it as a synonym for "it does not boot" - which is a different thing). With Clockwork the worst that can happen is that you make the device unbootable in default mode but everything else (TPT, Fastboot, Clockwork recovery) will still work - so fixing the problem is easy. If a TPT goes wrong chances are that all boot modes break. Without soldering there's nothing one can do then.
Guest hecatae Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 If a TPT goes wrong chances are that all boot modes break. Without soldering there's nothing one can do then. which is why zte updated tpt to an image.bin single file, but sadly they removed fastboot in doing so
Guest cacoe Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 (edited) I went with green 3.0, wish I'd left it today so I'd not have to bother getting 3.1 Anyway, it seems to work without a hitch. Well, I did find something really minor and I'm interested if this happens for everyone else who is using it. The loading bar for the browser is all messed up. Rather than the normal coloured bar, it appears to be a (very warped) black outlined circle with a bar going through it as though there is a missing resource. This is obviously only a cosmetic problem. The best thing about this release (and I'm not sure if it's specific to this ROM or not) is how many options there are now :D I ended up spending a big chunk of yesterday messing around with everything :D The unlock and lock animation is nice too but when I first locked it I was like WTF IS WRONG WITH MY PHONE?!!!
