Guest theeskimo Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 (edited) So the wayfinder that everyone thought was the most awesome thing ever isn't on ebay anymore :D *cries* So I'm wondering what alternatives would work for a similar price? This one looks nifty, but will it work? Thanks guys Edited June 5, 2011 by theeskimo

Guest theeskimo Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Cheers buddy so we're pretty much safe with any mobile bluetooth gps like this one on amazon here (65 channels seems better than 20 so I'm swaying towards forking out the £15 extra) thanks

Guest User22 Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 What is the point of buying a 65 channels GPS receiver IF the max satellite on VIEW that any receiver will get are between 9 or 10 ??? Because 65 channels mince to me that you will "see" 65 satellites that is not true. So read very carefully what is advertised and what is the real live. Cheers mates.

Doesn't have the latest and greatest GPS chip and as a result, locks on to satellites much slower etc. etc.
Guest theeskimo Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Okay so what do you recommend as an alternative to the wayfinder?
Guest flip.c Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 It's a bit old by nowadays standard, but the holux gpslim 236 bluetooth works great alongside the 'Bluetooth GPS Provider' app. Phill
Guest boh Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 You must choose a Sirf Star III chipset based bluetooth gps dongle that is compatible with bluetooth gps provider and it's very fast to fix satellites
Guest danb79 Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 I personaly use my nexus s as gps unit using an apps called "shareGPS" on the phone and "Bluetooth GPS" on my corvus5 vega works great!
Guest trevor432990 Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 The same supplier who sold me the Wayfinder on eBay is selling a Navicore Sirf 3 unit here so maybe worth researching that one a bit further. Again it will more than likely work fine with the Vega :D
Guest theeskimo Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Thank you all, danb97, that's a great idea for my vega and my htc, thanks, however I'll need a gps unit for my parents' vega too! ;) flip.c and trevor, thanks for the suggestions. Boh suggests that the Sirf Star III chipset is awesome, so the Navicore Surf 3 seems like it'll do the job, but its a bit on the ugly side and I've bought the vega for my parents so it's gotta look good!! What about this ... GlobalSat BT-359 Bluetooth GPS Receiver??? Its got the Sirf Star III Chipset, £20 and is aesthetically pleasing :P Cheers Guys

Got mine cheaper from here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GLOBALSAT-BLUETOOTH-...=item4aa98f8e7c Doesn't come with a manual/charger but the manual can be found online and it can be charged by any mini-usb charger or mini-usb PC cable you have lying around (I had an old blackberry charger spare as blackberry have moved over to micro-usb). Excellent battery life as well. Edited June 9, 2011 by andrewdolphin
