Guest tump13b Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Hey guys. I recently bought an orange San Francisco, rooted it and put on 2.2 froyo, Swedish spring. Everything's been great up until the other day when I went to the beach. The phone was in somebodies handbag, and her 1 year old put some sand inside (doh!). Now whenever I make a call, or when somebody calls me, its very fuzzy. Like if you turned it up so much that the gain was super high. It's definitely not manageable and I can't just live with it. I've tried it with headphones and it's fine, and on loud speaker it's fine, and with another sim card it's exactly the same, so it's definitely just the little speaker above the 'San Francisco' tag that's the problem. The obvious culprit would be sand, but the speakers so small and the holes are so small that I can't see sand getting in there, but that's the only thing i can think of. What's the policy on returning goods to orange? I've had it about 2 weeks now. My friend said if you root the phone then the warranty is void, is there a way to put it back to how it was when they sent it and they'd never know? Thanks alot for any replies

Thanks alot for any replies i had the exact same problem, i believe that i was running Swedish spring as well, i dont know whether it was to do with sand or the operating though, i found that it just when away after a while but that might be due to upgrading to CM7 though i cant imagine why that would change anything :S, you might want to try and take the front off or something and see if there is any sand in there? also, i tried to take my phone back to orange because of that but because i am on 3 i didn't use the sim it came with and subsequently lost it thus i was not entitled to the warranty as the guy in the shop said that the phone and the sim are joined so you need both to claim on the warranty... lastly i cant imagine how they would be able to tell that you rooted it if you return it to the stock rom (either from a recovery or a stock rom found on the internet) and then just un-root it using universal androot or what ever... hope that helps but i was really confused when i got it myself and didnt take any particular action to (other that bashing it a few time in the hope that might help) :D
Guest flshg Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 I think its extremely likely to simply be sand. Sand particles can be very small, they aren't created in a factory to be a minimum size :D As chinnmann pointed out, get it as close to stock as you can and return to orange shop. There's probably no way they can prove it wasnt a manufacturing fault.
Guest tump13b Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Thanks for the replies. I've restored it to the orange 2.1android Rom and unrooted it, and took it to an orange shop today. They said that there's a number I have to call and they replace it within 24 hours, so I'll try that
Guest Pondlife Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 also, i tried to take my phone back to orange because of that but because i am on 3 i didn't use the sim it came with and subsequently lost it thus i was not entitled to the warranty as the guy in the shop said that the phone and the sim are joined so you need both to claim on the warranty... That sounds like complete nonsense to me. You'd be (theoretically) holding onto the (lost) orange sim if they replaced the phone anyway... (I would have taken a new orange sim with me though in the phone)
