Guest swisstourist Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 I am in switzerland, thinking to go to an orange shop to get a SF? should I call? still worth 120 francs?i am really pissed with my nokia T9 sh..t keyboard.
Guest k0zmic Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 It's still a great phone for the price. The Huawei Titan has been mentioned as a competitor though so do hunt around.
Guest chinnmann Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 (edited) It's still a great phone for the price. The Huawei Titan has been mentioned as a competitor though so do hunt around. from what iv seen the titan is about double the price (cheepest i saw was arround the £185 mark), looks really good though :D also the ZTE skate should be coming out around now and that looks relly good for the price being rumoured... i hear its going to be around the same price and specs as the titan just with a 4.3'' screen instead of a 3.8'' for the titan. though i have to say i still really love my blade, especially on CM7 :D Edited June 6, 2011 by chinnmann
Guest skybooks Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 I am in switzerland, thinking to go to an orange shop to get a SF? should I call? still worth 120 francs?i am really pissed with my nokia T9 sh..t keyboard. I just sold mine. I had a Nokia 5800. This SF is way way faster and more advanced, but the core features are really weak which forced me to go back to 5800. eg: Headphone volume is TERRIBLE and I mean terrible - unusable outdoors or witrh any surrounding noise. Ignore all the posters who have found certain earphones etc, bottom line it is a BIG flaw. No radio via speaker. Really bad camera. Cannot download all types of files from all types of sites with stock browser. If you never use phone for camera and not radio and you never use headphones and dont download files then obviously all above are non issues, but for me it was killers.
Guest Pondlife Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 I wouldn't ignore all the posters who've managed to use the SF perfectly well with headphones. Personally there's nothing I'd want to listen to on FM, now if there was one with Dab.... Odd the nokia 5800 has a pretty lousy camera too at least it has a flash I guess. Was a big step down from the one on the K800i I had before it. The stock browser on the 5800 is even more shocking imo, tortuous to use. Not found anything that I've wanted to download that it hasn't handled so far, but guess I'll use a pc if need be. Hardly a biggie for me. For me the only thing the nokia does better is nokia's ovi maps navigation, Besides which unless they already have a nokia 5800 it's not really a useful comparison as it's still around double the price, it definitely pees over the 5230 would've been around the same price point.

Guest shadowninty Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 I had to use my 5530 (5800 derivative) for a week instead of my Blade I was so happy to get back to my Blade I could've cried
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 I am never leaving the blade or android after getting the blade. Download volume+ - It gives a MASSIVE improvement to the volume. Seriously... Flibblesan also made a zip file that can boost your volume... And android is fully customizable. ALMOST EVERY system app can be changed, eg, the camera, texts, calls, keyboard, music player, radio, file managers, settings........ Android isnt perfect out the box. But with a little tweaking it can be molded in almost any way and becomes the best user experience ever.
Guest Roph Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Honestly I wonder what you people are doing with your headphones sometimes, because I've never used any volume modification and my blade drives these headphones (40Ω Impedence!) more than loud enough.
Guest swisstourist Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 seems to me that people who have problems with the blade are little bit clueless. it s easy to google and type "how to increase sound on zte blade" by reading your reply, I should go for it.

My blade is plenty loud enough on the standard headphones supplied with the phone. Just turns out that with CM7 the lower range of volume eg 1-5 on the sound is lower than the range 1-5 on other roms but the upper sound limit is higher so it works out

Cannot download all types of files from all types of sites with stock browser. I don't use the camera and haven't listened to a radio since mp3 was invented but I guess those are justifiable limitations if those are features you consider core to a phone. With regards to headphones, I'm not sure how you can justify ignoring people who have a solution to the problem? Either through different headphones are software solutions. Using poweramps pre-amp makes it loud enough for me. The one that really amuses me though is that last one... This is Android. There are hundreds of thousands of apps including dozens of browsers. It's more or less the point of the thing to replace stock apps with ones you prefer! :D Edited June 7, 2011 by targetbsp
Guest Roph Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) It does seem a bit like Installing windows and then complaining that wordpad isn't savvy enough, or MS Paint doesn't have enough features :D Edited June 7, 2011 by Roph

Thats a bit biggoted. Was just trying to answer your query. Oh, your Swiss.... To other user who are interested in facts and information: The volume boost workaround is for CM7 - last I checked. True browser on 5800 is not great, but Opera mini is great. Try downloading a file from Rapidshare with your blade and then try filesonic... Overall speed and Capacitative screen and screen quality is MUCH better with the blade. BTW, did all Nokia users use stock ROM's or CFW's? If stock then you cannot really compare. The sound issue is baffling, as some report that it works great and they have to turn down the volume... but I can guarantee you the volume on mine and others as here: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...e-music-louder/ was so bad that I have sold my OSF and gone back to 5800. using specific headphone squashed nto your ear is NOT a solution for me. I REALLY miss Android, but I think this is a real test on where I was, that I sold the OSF and downgraded back to 5800. Things are not so swish and fast, but everything hardwarewise works. Also camera on 5800 is great, mabe not as good as a dedicated camera, but far far better than OSF, which is not really usable for holiday pics etc. Only usable for unserious pics - inn my opinion. To clarify again, I am not here to bash OSF or Android. You will NOT find ANY other phone with this value for money, brilliant hardware FOR THE PRICE, but take into account the info above. If you are upgrading form a handset that cost you sub £100, you will guaranteed be happy, but if a better handset - even if it is dated, you will likely be irritated by the downgrade in core quality. Happy shopping.

Happy shopping. Yeah but Opera mini is available for the blade too.. I've not needed either of those sites if I do I guess I'll worry about it, but I have three pcs so doesn't seem life and death... Tbh, my phone is only ever a backup option for mp3 playback, the battery life takes too big a hit for my liking and neither the blade or my old nokia do as good a job of it as an mp3 player. I keep leaving my headphones at work so haven't checked how it sounds on them. Still don't rate the camera on the 5800, it's why I've not even tried the one on the blade for anything other than barcodes. It was a real step down after the K800i so got used to not using camera phone. Even taken the k800i around a few times just for the camera. :D I'd say it won't take the punishment the very solid 5800 and the sturdy k800i before it have taken, but not convinced the latest sony or nokias will either. I keep the nokia around for sat nav atm, although that is irritating me now too keeps saying there's an upgrade but won't install it. The battery life was likely longer on the nokia too, although maybe I just used the more power hungry features less. But I get a better signal on the blade than I did on the nokia, it's so much nicer to use online, and even with it's faults Android Market is so much better than Ovi Store (so many times that's downloaded updates for the store and it's still almost unusable). I'd say the 5530 isn't a fair comparison for nokai though that doesn't even have 3g does it? I'm not knocking the nokia that hard they did a decent job at the time, but they don't have anything currently comparable with the blade at even 50% more of the price. I wish they'd gone down the android route rather than Windows phone personally as I'd have liked a 5800 successor with much better screen, ovi maps and android, but not to be.
Guest skybooks Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 and even with it's faults Android Market is so much better than Ovi Store (so many times that's downloaded updates for the store and it's still almost unusable). Ovi Store is a sad joke, and should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as Android app store... this is one of the things I will really miss. I cant argue your points. I am in the position that I do really need (am mobile alot so want as least possible gadgets) and want all-in-one (camera/mp3/radio/gps/downloader) hence I need to stay with the inferior phone. Anyone who is not that bothered with all-in-one or specificlly with the above features, will be delighted with the Blade and will have a far superior user experience than the 5800.
Guest OtherguyX Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 i dont get you guys man, how can the volume be low. I only listen to the first 2 - 3 volumes up, for me, max volume hurts my ears after 5 minutes, its too loud! you must have horrible ears... after i got my blade, i was like omg this is badword amazing, then when i CustomFM it i was like s*** THIS IS SO AWESOME I DUNNO WHAT TO DO. it really is an amazing phone!

Guest Pondlife Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 Ovi Store is a sad joke, and should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as Android app store... this is one of the things I will really miss. I think it's low quality is one of the reasons nokia have floundered in recent times, astonished by how badly they dropped the ball on that one. Even searching for their own programs on there is hit and miss. Wish they'd made more of a noise about having Swype, love that now on Blade and would've made my time on 5800 nicer too. Hadn't even heard of it til I came on here. :D
Guest swisstourist Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 just go it, played around for 30 min...1 word :WOOW 130 swiss francs included 10 francs card in a orange store. the screen is good, except some white light when on black screen situated just under the O of san francisco. what it is???
Guest shadowninty Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 ^Sounds like a dead pixel. I have one, only 1 out of 400000 tho Wish they'd made more of a noise about having Swype, love that now on Blade and would've made my time on 5800 nicer too. Hadn't even heard of it til I came on here. :D It was a real pain to use on Resistive screen
Guest Pondlife Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 It was a real pain to use on Resistive screen Seemed ok to me on 5800, but didn't use it extensively.
Guest skybooks Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 Seemed ok to me on 5800, but didn't use it extensively. swyping this on my 5800 now, no problem. If anything the issue is the smaller screen on the 5800 but I find it very usable, probably comparable to when I used out on the blade.
Guest swisstourist Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 no dead pixel, it s like on the ipad2,some light leak.
Guest frenchy77 Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 hi pondlife / skybooks, sorry for dropping on your conversation, but i have the 5530 and the blade/osf. i am still trying to put the nokia down as i have loved the way it just works... if it was the 5800 with gps the carl ziess camera i would not have gone for the blade in the first place.. that said i have decided to swap over to the blade full time now to see if i will stay with it. for sure games are great. and i am on SSRLS5 lite and it seems to be running really well. the capacitive screen actually takes some getting used to after a long time with resistive - sometimes the resistive seems better, sometimes not! i suppose it is what the user becomes used to.. sony phone basic cameras are for better by miles than most basic most.. but by going with zeiss nokia up'ed their game [they HAD to] oh, and how does one customise the nokia ui..? nokia CFW..? please tell me more...! hi ALL - the volume on my blade is LOUD..! i can only think that some phones have problems and some are fine - even on stock roms. hi swisstourist, for 75 GBP the blade was a steal, certainly compared with anything on the market [as it can be customised] although there are some good samsung deals out there at the moment; galaxy apollo and galaxy europa for around 70 - 80 GBP. even if you get a blade and customise it and dont like it, you will get your money back if you sell it on. peace
