Got confused with bin versions, rom versions, build numbers...

Hello

I love al the information on these forum, but I can't figure the following out.

I want to flash the CDTeam FroYoMetal V3.0 FINAL custom ROM from this thread.

My Device info version says 2.1, Build number says Acer_LiquidE_4.002.08_EMEA_GEN1, phone is running 2.2 Froyo

What do I have to do before I can flash the Metal custom ROM?

The custom ROM thread topic startter says I have to flash the corresponding official bin first and it's better to use the corresponding BIN, not just 2.2

So there is a difference betweem the BIN version (=device info version?) and the ROM version?

My buikd number is in this thread listed under 2.2. So I guess i download and flash that BIN so that my BIN version is 2.2 and I can flash the 2.2 custom Metal ROM.

But, my build number is not listed under 2.1 also, which means it doesn't exist in combination with a 2.1 BIN and device info version is not the same as the BIN version?

As you can see, I'm really confused. If someone could tell me what I have to do before flashing the 2.2 custom Metal ROM and why that is?

Thanks in advance

you already have a 2.2 bin, not 2.1.. and the difference in simple words is that the .bin file are like bases for the firmwares/systems, and the firmwares are the ROMs that you can find all over the forum (: i ca' see you did already read the ultimate liquid thread so from there you should know how to proceed :D just remember to INSTALL MALEZ RECOVERY AND DO A NANDROID BACK UP!!!! like that you'll have your old firmware saved in case you need it back for warranty reasons or you're simply not satisfied with the roms here ^^

good luck and feel welcome to the forums, cheers

Thanks for your fast reply!

I think I'm good to go now but only a few last questions:

- What does device info version stands for if it isn't the bin version? Just the version of the device information screen/tool?

- Kinda terrified of bricking, are there any unrecoverable bricks? Unrecoverable meaning not being able to do it by myself.

Thanks in advance again :D

the device info always gives you the correct info lol... you probably just missunderstood...

and well the only way i know of bricking a liquid its when u interrupt the flashing process of a bin file... apart of that you can solve anything via malez recovery if you know how to use it (: and since you already have a 2.2 bin there's no need of flashing one :D

so all you gotta do is instal malez recovrry and then via it flash the firmware you want BUT MAKE A NANDROID BACK UP FIRST!! LOL
