Guest DWaldie Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) A few days after getting my OSF a few months ago I replaced the original 2.1 ROM with a 2.2 JJ version. On the whole it has been excellent with the exception that the internet is slow, even when using Wi-Fi. I plan to replace the JJ ROM with another (recomendations welcome) but I'm not sure how to do so. Is it simply a case of installing a new version over the old, or do I have to do something else. I realise that my personal data and setting will be lost, but I can backup what I need. Also, can someone remind me how to check if mine is GEN1 or 2? Any advice would be welcomed. Guest k0zmic Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 Mr Pigfish app on Market to check if Gen 1 or Gen 2. Just place the ROM on the SD Card, go into recovery, choose wipe data/factory reset and then mounts and storage and format system. Then simply flash your chosen ROM.

I notice I can upgrade this to GEN2 now. Do I upgrade to GEN2 first then apply another ROM, or vice versa?
Guest Pondlife Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 If you want a gen2 rom then you need to upgrade to gen2 first (if it's a gen1 rom then don't :D )
Guest k0zmic Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 Excellent. I'm GEN1. I notice I can upgrade this to GEN2 now. Do I upgrade to GEN2 first then apply another ROM, or vice versa? Upgrade to Gen 2 first: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...r-easy-install/ Then follow the ROM installation steps I said before to install a newer version of CM or a Froyo ROM.

Thanks, that worked painlessly. I now have a much faster phone, but I can't get satnav to work now. It just crashes the phone and restarts. Is there a fix, or do I need to try another ROM

GPS may cause a reboot once, after that it usually works great.

I assumed this would just be my contacts etc, but it seems to be copying everything back. Is this reversable, can I stop it part way through?

Yeah CWM Backup is a 'system image'. Just let it finish and then wipe again and flash whichever ROM you want and all should be well.
Guest Pondlife Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 No, unless you did a backup, and no don't try to stop it.

Can I safely assume I will have to manually enter my contacts, or can I retrieve them from that backup I made?
Guest Pondlife Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 Should be able to sync them from google if you backed them up to your account. If not you could look on market for an app, back up the new rom, go back to the old one back it up and restore the new ones back up. Not sure how well that reads. Think I'm getting tired.

I know what you are saying. It's probably going to be easier to do it manually. Google backup will be a real bonus from now on. This new ROM is like having a new phone. It works so quickly and smoothly now. Thanks go to all of you.
