Guest pointwhich Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Hello, First of all I'm sorry if this is already discussed or if this is posted in the wrong place. I've tried looking but haven't found anything. I've been using Swedish Spring as my main ROM for a while now. It's been working like a charm until a couple of weeks ago when I couldn't install apps anymore. It would just reboot android while installing the app. At first I didn't really mind, but after a while I looked for possible solutions On a forum somewhere I read fixing permissions in ClockworkMod, might help. So I tried that and let it run. After more than half an hour I just kept seeing "Fixing permissions..." or something like that. I think this was taking longer than it should so I pulled the battery and rebooted. On rebooting I seemed to have lost most of my settings (wallpaper reset, APN settings,...). But the app install problem seemed to be solved. I installed Rom Recovery and fixed permissions in that program. It didn't bring my settings back, but I can live with that. One thing I can't live with: The homebutton doesn't do anything anymore. I get haptic feedback and it still works in ClockworkMod, but it doesn't bring me back to my homescreen from an app. I have to keep using the back button. I read somewhere that this could be helped by doing a factory reset. But apparently factory reset doesn't do anything at all. I go to SETTINGS -> PRIVACY -> FACTORY DATA RESET -> RESET PHONE -> ERASE EVERYTHING. It reboots and nothing has been reset. All my apps and settings are still there. I've always tried to solve problems myself by using google or searching these forums specifically. I wouldn't call myself an expert at android just yet, but I've managed until now. This one just has me stumped for some reason. Any pointers would be welcome. Thanks a lot.
Guest k0zmic Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 (edited) Do a full wipe via Clockworkmod - Data/Factory Reset and go into mounts and storage and wipe system. Your ROM sounds as if it's in a un-repairable. Edited June 9, 2011 by k0zmic

Guest hugobosslives Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Yep +1, remember to go into mounts and storage and then wipe your system. woah. slow down. dont tell him to just wipe the /system partititon. if you do this it will erase the rom. so make sure you put a new rom on your sdcard ready to install otherwise your phone won't boot as it wont have a OS. i would. wipe everthing in clockwork (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe davlik cache) then reinstall the rom. (i.e choose zip from sdcard) and fixing permissions does take ages. specially if you have hell loads of apps. i have more than 250 apps and it takes about 20 mins.
Guest pointwhich Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Thanks so much for all your help. I'm going to the wipe tomorrow. Maybe I should have given ClockworkMod a little longer to fix permissions. But I only have about 50 apps installed and I'm pretty sure I gave it at least half an hour. Also: The only thing on the screen was "Fixing Permissions". I didn't get the console messages you get with Rom Manager. I thought it was just hanging. Anyway thanks again.
