ZTE Blade Battery "dead" but chargeable

Hi.

I've purchased a ZTE Blade a few hours ago and everything was working fine. Until i installed Clockworkmod recovery, plugged the phone on my computer and then i unplug it. After that the phone seems screwed. Let me detail it. I'm on stock rom. So, i can experience three diferent situations.

1) Case 1: phone unplugged: Not working, not charging, not nothing. Dead.

2) Case 2: phone plugged into a computer: Boot Loop

3) Case 3: phone plugged with his charger: Everything is working fine. Android loads correctly and phone works as it should. There i can see battery is charging.

BUT. If i unplug the charger the phone automatically shuts down. And i am unable to power it on (case 1) unless i power it on a computer (case 2) or using his charger (case 3)

Does anyone have experienced that or should i go and try to get it repaired / replaced?

Leave it to charge properly via a plug for 12 hours. Then try boot it up.

Plugging Phone into computer doesn't supply enough power to boot the phone

Actually, the phone booted when plugged into my computer. It's just that it gets struck in an endless reboot when loading. Sequence is as follows: Android logo --> Zte logo --> carrier logo --> reboot --> Android logo --> Zte logo --> carrier logo --> reboot.... and it can keep on endlessly.

As of now i have the phone powered on using the bundled charger. According to Android the battery is fully charged. But as soon as i unplug the phone it shuts down inmediately.

And by the way. In those last two years i got in my hands like 20 or more Android phones and every one of them charged normally through USB (it takes longer than using the bundled charger but charges as well). Still this is the first phone i got in my hands that i can power on using the charger without any need for the battery to be on the phone. On all the other handsets no battery means no way of powering on the phone.

Exactly. The Booting process needs to much power and iit can't complete

I presume the Blade is white a lower power device hence why it boots on charger

It's not the white one. It's the black one.

So what you are implying is the phone is unbootable unless you boot him on charger? That sounds faulty to me, specially when at the first boot the phone booted fine without the charger plugged.

I must ask... clockworkmod recovery affects this in any way? I am considering, if i learn how to, removing it and installing stock recovery. Maybe i installed a wrong clockworkmod recovery?

No, you need to let the battery get a full charge. It's how phone batteries work, it's not faulty.

It shouldn't affect it.

Well. I have charged the phone for all this night (like 8 hours). And according to Status Device it's at 100% and "Charging..."

I unplug the phone and automatically it shuts down. I can't boot the phone unless plugged with his charger.

Have you tried flashing clockwork mod again? What version is on your phone currently? I'm just wondering if what you have is corrupted, because if that is all that has changed on your phone since it was last working properly then clockworkmod seems to be the culprit.

Oh and if you do redownload and reflash clockworkmod then go into advanced section (in clockworkmod) and reset the battery stats.

Also make sure the battery is fitted in correctly. This is what happened when I first got my San Fran. Then wait for a few hours till it's adequately charged

Hey, I have the exact same problem as this guy. My phone DOES NOT turn on AT ALL.

When I plug it in via the usb port on my computer, it boots up but its in an endless loop restarting when it gets to the orange logo, once it has actually went up to the android main menu, but then restarted straight away. This may be because there isn't enough power getting to the phone, which is understandable.

When I plug it in via the power socket, it boots up perfectly normal and then begins to start charging.

For both of these situations, whenever I remove the USB from the phone, it automatically turns off. And I cannot turn the phone on at all, unless I plug the charger back in.

I have found a trick though, it does not work all the time, but follow these steps:

1) Clean the terminals on both the battery and the things that stick out that the battery connects with.

2) Insert Battery back in.

3) See if it turns on, if it doesn't then go to Step 4.

4) Take Battery out, and then tear a piece of paper and wedge it behind the battery so its forcing the battery against the terminals with a tighter fit.

5) See if it turns on, if it doesnt then go to Step 6.

6) Keep repositioning the paper, and also adjust the thickness of the paper wedge. You may wanna keep cleaning the terminals too.

I have had so many problems with this phone, its unbelievable!

I went finally to the store this morning and i got a replacement of the phone. Seems working fine. Charging, discharging, working unplugged, plugged, stuff like that.

I'm going to install clockworkmod recovery and do the same stuff i did in my previous phone, see what happens.

@bass2k8 what you describe shouldn't be a solution. Maybe it could be a workaround but in my oppinion a replacement or a repair might be the ultimate solution. And the one anyone should do. In fact, that's why we have a warranty, to solve a phone problem when it appears.

@flshg stock recovery did not help at all in the matter. Phone still was unable to boot unless plugued to a wall.
