This thread is mainly for developers, I don't suggest that you flash any of these unless you really know what you're doing.

Please post any links to other official Blade updates, I'm trying to make a complete list. If you can add the download page link & also the link to the file for any other official updates, that'd be great. I also want to fill in more details, like build dates, etc.

Nice idea.

Here is an Md5 tableof the firmware files in all of those plus one that burstlam got from somewhere (the original china unicom froyo firmwar)

Have you got a link to the original China Unicom firmware? Also, the softbank 003z firmware, the one I linked to above is an updated version, there was another link for an older one floating around somewhere.

That Swedish/Danish generic build on the ZTE Sweden site is a new addition, I only just noticed that today, I don't think it's been posted here before. Build date is 6th May. It seems like a clean generic ZTE build with no operator additions.

So, ideally I want the build date, the md5, the size, the download page, the download link & a couple of mirrors for each. I'll add some more info later.

burstlam posted it (and i repacked it for) nzkiller's brick thread. Here is nzkillers pack which contains it, and here is my firmware package for my guide.

I'm trying to flash Swedish/Danish update on my Gen1 UK Blade, but it says wrong version. Do I already have to have Gen2 to be able to flash this? Or is the generic blade sold there somehow different from uk one?

P.S. My intentions are to fully upgrade to Gen2 and have the latest vanilla Froyo possible.

Yeah, it's a pity. That and the recent halt of custom rom development leaves us with nothing but CM7, which is still rather buggy, and earlier versions of roms which are getting pretty old now.

Came out just a couple of days ago. I'd like to get it working on my phone to do a rom dump, but I was silly enough to start flashing custom roms without making nandroid of my original eclair..

Unless I am mistaken, that is the same file as the Generic Swedish one.

Updated this with the new Finnish & Chinese updates, also refreshed the mirrors (some had been deleted because of no downloads).

I've lost the link to the Greek Wind update, it's changed, the old one is dead & my Greek isn't good enough to find the new link. Filesonic removed the mirror too, for no downloads. Does anybody have the new link? or a a mirror of the file?

I had a look on the Wind Website aswell with Google translate and found no mention of a Blade update. I don't have the original file, only amss.mbn, partition.mbn, partition_zte.mbn, and system.img, which you can still download from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C40HEENE

Would anyone be interested in comparing "proprietary files" from all these ROMs and finding out what files are actually changing, what are still the same, and in the end making "the best" set of proprietary files for ZTE Blade?

I'll explain why I am asking this.

If someone wants to build CM himself, he would find out that he needs first to extract proprietary files from his phone and put them in the CM tree. CM team says that they cannot publish these files in CM repository because of license issues or whatever. That's the current reality.

Now, I don't really understand this attitude because:

  1. these same people already made these same proprietary files publicly accessible in their git repositories (for example here and here)
  2. these same people already do publish these same proprietary files in the official CM downloads
What to make of this schizophrenic standpoint is beyond my comprehending but.. whatever.

The real problem here is that these files distributed within CM downloads are old.

This proved as a major issue just recently when ZTE Blade started to be sold with a newer type of accelerometer sensor. The old proprietary files from within CM doesn't work with it. I was researching this problem for a while and after several tens of testing builds, digging into kernel sources, digging into various CM sources, today people are finally starting to report me fully working sensors in CM. I didn't have time yet to find out what was actually the cause but on 99% it was those proprietary files, namely /system/bin/akmd2 (the one in the official CM distribution doesn't talk to /dev/adxl34x and consequently the other sensors don't work as well).

Based on the findings above, the general advice to people in similar "strange" problems (beside the usual advices like "make sure you have the latest versions", "make sure you do a full wipe" etc.) could go like this: "extract the proprietary files from your original ZTE ROM and inject them into CM".

While that would be for their particular phones the best, in reality for many it would be a problem. Not everyone makes a backup of the original ROM, not everyone is capable of such manipulations with files, and they would have to do it every single time when they upgrade CM.

So I was thinking, why not to take it a one step forward and not research and compare these proprietary files ultimately making a single best set of them? Then we can offer this set to the CM team to include it in their CM builds and also we can make a simple installable .zip file.

If I say it in general way, maybe in the same way as wbaw is collecting and maintaining "the best" set of .mbn firmware files, we may as well maintain a similar "the best" set of these proprietary files. What do you think about that?

hi,

good idea, both blade cm devs own a zte blade and a zte v880. When a new stock rom comes out they have looked at the new proprietary libs to see what will work.

when they looked at gen1 to gen2 libs they found the majority had not changed.

when they received their v880s from ZTE, one of the devs found that they were based on a newer kernel source and rom than the latest kernel source zte provided, so they had to hack the kernel to support the new lcd.

the newer blades coming out are having to be supported with adjustments to the kernel, as the zte provided kernel source is incomplete and the cm blade devs are having to hack around issues.

proprietary libs are closed source, cyanogenmod repository is opensource, you will never see anything that is proprietary or closed source in there.
