SS RLS5 and CM7 Screen Off and Locking Differences

I’ve noticed that since moving from Swedish Spring RLS5 to CM7 ROMs that some apps don’t work properly.

Easy Answer Button app used to work well with SS RLS 5 and saved having to use the slider each time but this doesn't work at all with CM7. The Screen Mode Widget app has an option which allows the screen to timeout but turn straight back on pressing Menu, Home, etc buttons and not require the slider to be used every time. This worked perfectly with SS RLS5 but this option doesn’t with CM7. This feature was very handy at times e.g. pausing mp3 player.

Does this mean that screen off and locking handling procedures are different and has this been purposely done this way for a reason?
