Guest pappapog Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 My wife and I have had the SF since October last year, both have been running on JJ9 with no problems. At the start of the week my wife's phone started to turn itself off and then finally it stopped working. Now it will only load as far as the Green Android and won't go any further the phone won't go into recovery either. I have tried taking the battery out, the sd card out, the sd card is fine as it works in both phones. Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.
Guest flshg Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 Does it work any better when plugged in to the charger or computer usb? What happens when you try to enter recovery?

When it is plugged into the charger and the USB it doesn't makd any difference. It won't let me enter recovery - have tried volume up and volume down. Many thanks
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 Plug it in and let it charge up for a couple of hours. Then put a TPT (preferably gen->gen2 with a Cm7 build intergrated) on your sd card (instructions on how to in the designated thread) (unzip the file so you have a directory called /sdcard/image/) Then apply the TPT (VOLUME UP and MENU and POWER) Hopefully this will help fix anything thats gone wrong ;) (you will loose data though)
Guest shmizan Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 yep. I was trapped once with a non working ROM and stock recovery (FTM) (was testing 850 MHz ;)) + TPTed to Gen 2 using v3 = no fastboot. adb didn't recognize the device but I DID have the v7 Gen 2 TPT on my phone which automagically installs recovery! do the above (what Mushroom_Lord said). use fastboot
Guest pappapog Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 Thanks for all the advice the tpt did the trick. Much appreciated.

This means if I put a folder called image on an sd card and put a recovery image such as clockwork (renamed recovery.img) in it then I can save a phone by the TPT method. The TPT installs the recovery image then I can reboot into recovery and take it from there. I know this probably isn't the most elegant way to save a phone that's stuck with FTM, but I'm just learning how all this stuff works.
