woundnt boot

today, my vega running R8 refused to boot. it said booting, then ADVENT appeared on screen but nothing else happened.i re-flashed genuine advent rom to regain working machine and then flashed R8 again. no probs but lost apps and settings.

my question is this, could i have just re-flashed R8 and retained apps and settings?

When you flash you basically wipe and replace the internal space with a new rom. Anything on the SD card would remain so potentially saved game data might still be there but you'd lose your app installs. You need to get into Clockwork Mod Recovery backups, Titanium Backup and Zebradroid's One Click Backup & Restore.

I'm sure there's a tutorial written about backing stuff up somewhere..... ;)
