Looking for Vanilla ROM

So after a bit of searching around, I can't seem to find any ROM's that are just the basic Android OS without any add-on software.

Is it possible that there is one there but I'm missing it?

If not then what would it take to build my own?

Depends what you mean by "add on software"?

The majority of ROMs on here with the exception of CM7 are pretty close to stock, although there are custom builds of that that are pretty vanilla too. It is comparatively easy to remove apps from a ROM, then flash it, but it takes a long, long time to make a ROM from scratch.

I like CM BUT I want to try 2.3 'as it comes' kinda thing.

To get a codeaura 2.3 up and running you would need to reimpliement shim's from CM7 re add amss 1240 support etc

even then it would be worse because you wouldn't have alot of the armv6 optimized asm routines.

Maybe when we get a skate rom dump it will be easier.
