Guest Chewy11 Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 Hi I have had my Liquid E for 11 months now and the community here is amazing. One thing that could help us (but mostly our DEVs) would be for Acer to release the source code for our beloved device. I'm no expert, more of a geeked out hobbyist, but as I understand it the release of such bits of code from Acer could open the door for full CM7 support and flawless hardware integration. I have the idea but I'm posting here to ask to some of us to come together to write up a professional looking letter(petition) but also a few Acer emails that could get some higher ups at Acer to notice. There is some life left in this device...Rogers in Canada is still selling the Liquid E for 9.99$ on a 3 year contract. Thanks to all who make this community what it is, hope this helps.

Guest Lens_flare Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 would be for Acer to release the source code for our beloved device. Pardon? We already have a source code of kernel... Or you going to get something like AOSP? :/
Guest Suxsem Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 they're speaking about libs and framework sources... and this would be very very usefull...
Guest Master_T Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 they'll never release any sources outside of what they're forced to (the kernel). Prolonging the life of an old product is against their interests.... ...on the other hand I'm always happy to annoy them, so count me in ;)
Guest jayziac Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 Another way to see how it could benefit Acer is that it would be seen as one of the companies that supports their devices after release, so future buyers are likely to buy Acer again. Who wants to buy a future product that doesn't get support soon after it's released?
Guest Chewy11 Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 Well to start 1 we need a list of the very specific bits of code we need from Acer and all the correct tech terms 2 someone with perfect grammar (professional)write up a good case for the release 3 with the ideas you post now below 4 need a volunteer writer 5 find a list of Acer emails (both global and countries that sell-have sold, the device) 6 I will then put that in OP so people can spread the good word I am open to other ways of getting their attention too if any are suggested
