ZTE blade ROM change issues (with video)

Hi guys,

I've had my Blade for just over two weeks, and am now trying to upgrade to cyanogenmod7.0.3 from this source http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...n2-tpt-upgrade/

my phone is Gen 1

This is not the first time I have put a new ROM on it from the current ROM, but this time nothing seems to be working, plus the ROM is quite unstable.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, I have just watched your video, I suggest, launch ROM Manager, scroll to the bottom to All ClockworkMod Recoveries and then choose 3.0.1.4 from the top of the list. Flash that recovery ignore any warning Clockwork gives about your recovery being out of date. 3.0.1.4 is perfect for Gen 1 handsets. But to use a Gen 2 ROM like CM7 to you need to update your handset to a Gen 2 memory layout. Or use one of the converters directly after the flash and before rebooting.

To boot into recovery, do it either manually (Phone is off, hold volume - & power button) or through ROM Manager.

The question then remains can you flash CM7 with ClockworkMod 3.0.1.4? I am sure you can. There are a ton of articles on how to upgrade from Gen 1 to Gen 2 on this forum.

I hope this helps.

Anil.

7.0.3 "stable" isn't actually that stable (for most people - but I hardly have problems with it) - I think the newer nightlies (eg 100 and 101) are stable (they are to me aswell - but if I didnt have problems with older ones its unlikely I'll have them with newer ones too ;) )

'No legacy recoveries were found'.

Also, when I try either to use the power and volume up or rom manager, the phone just reboots normally-I can't get into clockworkmod, which is bizzare as I could yesterday lunch when I put this rom on my phone! I'm happy to run any diagnostic apps or anything to get it working again, but in its current state I get lots of FC's :S.

I may try nightly 100 or above, but given my fairly tricky past experiences with ROMS, I wanted to try something solid rather than something that is out of date (literally) overnight! ;)

All help will be appreciated!

The stable isn't really solid, it's just a nightly with a stable tag tacked on really.

Hi, I would launch the App Market and go the My Apps tab and uninstall ROM Manager, then reinstall the app, after it has downloaded launch it. Then try and Flash Recovery version 3.0.1.4.

Finally to get into recovery mode manually, power down your phone. Take the battery out (just to be mega sure) wait 30 secs then reinsert the battery. Hold down the volume down key ( - ) keep it pressed then press and hold down the power key. Keep both of these buttons held down, the green ANDROID will appear, continue holding these buttons down until the the Clockwork Recovery menu appears. Now you can let go. It takes about 10 secs from power on to the Recovery menu.

I hope this helps. Finally, I would not recommend using CM7, use Swedish Spring RLS5, and then after your first boot up you can apply the Gingerbread UI theme. You have for the most part a Gingerbread phone. I know there are technical differences, but for an end user they are negligible. Swedish Spring is what I use and it is rock solid. In my opinion CM7 is about 3 months away from being stable.

Enjoy your phone.

Anil.

How exactly did you try to install the tpt, it sounds like you tried to install it using clockwork rather than using tpt?

If you followed the thread you mentioned your phone would've changed to gen 2. Check with the pigfish.

I don't agree at all that CM7 is less worthwhile, there are problems with SS too really if you check the thread, mind you that doesn't require going to gen2. I can't imagine he's used CM7 lately.

Hi guys;

Thanks for all your help, I'm now back on my old Rom. I have a Gen 1 phone but no idea how to use tpt. Can anyone recommend a good tutorial for using this to install a Gen 2 Rom? Thanks all, especially Anil! ;)

Hi,

User wbaw has an excellent guide for upgrading to a Gen 2 memory layout using TPT, you can find it here;

TPT guide

Personally I would stay clear of Cyanogen until it truly is ready for novice users like you and me. Reading the bug list for CM7 it is clear to see they still have work to do.

Either way you are welcome and have fun.

lol, that's the same guide he linked in the first post. ;)

I think it's excellent too, but guess they aren't having as much luck with it.

Hello again guys,

I just wanted to say thanks for all the help, I'm now running cyanogenmod stable with pretty good results, and have done the same for two other phones (siblings!)

I'm really grateful for your time!

Chris
