TEMPORARY "PSEUDO" SOLUTION TO USB TETHER UNDER CM7 GINGER ROMS

Hi, I'm a beginner in Android flashing (succesfully coming from symbian and old win mobile), this post is just an advise and perhaps everybody here is just aware of it and nothing special as been revealed..but it's just an additional info.

2 days ago, after days of forum reading, finally I decided to try to pass from 2.2 swedish spring to N97 CYANOGEN..I didn't know about the issue of the missing usb tethering in gingerbread..damn!

At a first attempt I tried every possible app like proxoyd and similar ones..I was nearly to be successful using AZILINK..it seemed to connect on windows 7,recognising my blade..but I don't know if depends on the kernel issue even with such apps or if it was my pc and win7..by the way, I was exhausted..(if someone expert wants to give a try azilink I think it was the less crappy among all..) at the end I decided to try EasyTether Lite: it worked straight away.

Just to let you know, I've flashed N97 using the CM7 UNIVERSAL CONVERTER (cause I have a GEN1 oled and didn't want to switch to GEN2) using the most updated kernel posted at the Post #186 by Grain user at the page n.10 (but after having done the internal partition to my GEN1 using this method here: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...l-alpha3-gen1/).

Now the thing is that the free version of Easy Tether allows you to use just the HTTP protocol, you can't surf HTTPS websites. But probably, most of the times, everybody doesn't surf on HTTPS,therefore my "pseudo" solution:

1) put on your blade homescreen the energy widget including the wifi-hotspot toggle

2) do the pairing with your pc (preferably on WPA2 of course)

3)download and install Easy Tether, pc client and app on the blade

4)surf internet using Easy Tether but leaving the wi-fi active on your pc

5)now the few times you'll need to surf in HTTPS simply un-tap your Easy Tether connection and tap your wi-fi hotspot toggle on the blade to surf in HTTPS

6)do viceversa to surf back in HTTP mode.

I know it seems nothing special for expert people, but I found it a quite good "temporary pseudo" solution whilst attending the usb tethering solution on the Gingerbread's roms..I don't want to come back to froyo just because of this issue having found this "noob" workaround trick :P

I hope this could be helpful to everyone ;)

Forgot to say: of course if you don't want to wait for the usb tethering patch just buy the full version of EasyTether,it seems to be the cheapest one on its category, like 9 dollars about for life I think, it's up to you.

Or use WiFi-Tethereing in the first place? Seems like an unnecessary workaround for me.

Quite a few blades have crap wifi signal strength.

However the patches to get usb tether to work are on review.cyanogenmod.com

(Think motorola did the main work and it was kanged by CM)

Please refrain from posting a post with CAPSLOCK on it as that is making it sound like "urgent" or "screaming/shouting".... take the hint! :)
