Guest pm99 Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 Kudos and thanks to the devs for the truly astonishing work on the custom ROMs, they have made the Vega really fly. I have enjoyed Vegacomb for its impressive graphics and Corvus 5 is fun and super-smooth. It ranks with the best of the second-gen tablets as a result. I'm not sure if I've worn it out in excitement at navigating but lately the Hard Back button has stopped working. Oddly in CWM after a few fruitless presses a further option appeared - "Go back" in the list. Obviously I have the soft buttons for much of the time - but crucially not normally in CWM and not for Recovery. What I do not know is whether there is some issue with flashing the ROMs and the working of the Hard buttons. I have used R8, Vegacomb, C5, CM7, back to C5. I have not found an answer by Search on the forum. Does anyone have a similar experience? I'd be grateful for any advice on how I can recover the functionality of the button. Should I reflash Stock? But if so, how to get into Recovery. Or is it a failed hardware issue? If I have to return it I have also to reflash Stock. Thanks

Thanks You could try getting into recovery, just watch device manager as you go. If you can get into recovery, then a reflash is in order but my guess is that this is not software related sadly. Button Saviour might offer some relief?

Thanks in cwm occasionally my rocker volume button becomes unresponsive but i find if i leave it and then press it the opposite way it works , however i did find that when using vegacomb my power off button became totally unresponsive and i had to completely reflash. i assume that your current set up works ok you just cant use the back button so as simonta says try button savior for daily use but it does sound like hardware failure. however i think that DSG said at the beginning that they would support the vega for hardware issues irrelevant of what software has been loaded so i wouldnt worry to much about going back to stock, they themselves link to this website , thats how i got here and seem to whole heartedly endorse this whole forum. good luck

Button Saviour does give a practical solution. I will try to reflash and work back to here, see if that does it. Otherwise it's a choice between living with it or a trip to PCW. Would really want to revert to stock for that, though. Is it right, as I have understood from reading your helpful guides, that the only way into Recovery for stock reflash is by using the Back button? It's a shame to be here, as this has been the only problem in an otherwise excellent experience. The machine is a great spec for the cost, loving Android in general and this forum community.

Sorry duplicate error! Yeh, back button is absolutely required to get to recovery. No known way of getting there any other way as the recovery software is not part of Android and does not live in the flash memory we have access to via the flashing tools or ADB, which is actually a very good thing - unbrickable! Good luck, but do try getting into recovery, it might be software but gut instinct does say it's unlikely...

I am really impressed by the level of help on offer in this forum community. I will give it a go and feedback in case it helps others.
Guest pm99 Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 LOL - Picked up the Vega this afternoon and noticed it had accumulated a lot of dust, in the case, as I carry it around. Looking closely at the hard buttons, they are not tightly seated, so I thought I'd try a really technical fix and gave the aperture a good hard blow and - voila! Button is working again, albeit with a hearty press. Hadn't tried to push in different ways before? But I had, because I had read a previous post concerning the 'Home' button working if you press more at one end. Wrong kind of press, I guess. Anyway I'm pleased to say I'm back in the land of Vega properly again. I suppose it may be kind of intermittent hardware fault on my unit, so I plan to rely heavily on Button Saviour and the other 'soft' buttons and save the 'hard' buttons for when absolutely necessary. Many thanks again for the encouraging words.
