Guest -+- Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 (First post so go easy, especially if I have dropped it in the wrong place, I think I picked the right place) I have searched about this topic to no avail just other frustrated users. 'droid is a Linux based Open Source platform, like you didn't know. What's going on? It can read and play Ogg Vorbis files (all the ring-tones are), but it cannot (to my best knowledge) play a Vorbis stream. I have tried with Android 2.1 and 2.2; mp3 streams fine so do some other common formats. Why would I even want that? :P My entire music collection is stored on my media server in Ogg Vorbis, because it's so much better than the antiquated mp3 format. Also some streaming radio services use Vorbis. What's the score? No built in or 3rd party app can achieve streaming Vorbis to my knowledge except maybe something flash based, which will not run on my phone anyway. I am completely confused by this, I use Linux, it should be a non-issue, just pipe the stream. I imagine it could be some kind of MIME issue. So, what now? What I would like, and I hope other people too, is to get some understanding of what is going wrong, and maybe why. To come up with a solution. And to get it included in some of the new firmwares. Is that too much to ask? ;) Thanks, M
Guest -+- Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 Really, I would have thought that this would have attracted some more attention. Any supporters on this? :)
Guest -+- Posted June 29, 2011 Report Posted June 29, 2011 Update: Using CIFS Manager I have been able to mount a windows share to a DIR on the phone, then play OGG Vorbis files from the mount-point. Ergo it is related to the phone's stream management as CIFS Manager has taken care of that role in this case. Now trying to decode: http://www.openintents.org/en/node/89 to understand mime handling in Android, any insights welcome.
