Considering what can be done to you in your country for simply unlocking your phone, I expect it's a hanging offence... :)

Seriously though, I wouldn't think it's a good idea. If not illegal, it's certainly immoral. They should be securing it, but if their house was unlocked would you take a wander through it just because you could?

The nicer thing to do, if you are vaguely on speaking terms with them, would be to explain to them that they need to secure it.

I'm pretty sure that that's illegal in the UK. If your neighbour doesn't know how to set their security up then I can't see them catching you though.

Do they still have the death penalty in Switzerland? :)

B)

But seriously nothing is likely to happen but you should at least tell them it's unsecured and maybe even help them to secure it.

why should I tell them? not my job to play the police or the teacher, and there is no law in switzerland about it.

enjoy you free connection :)

First you ask is it legal, then you say there is no law in switzerland about it.Why would you want to use your neighbours wifi when I assume you have your own, and what's with the white cheeses comment. Some people are not clued up when it comes to computers. The neighbourly thing would be to help them, not steal from them.

Ok I've removed that cheese comment that may/may not be racist. Please remember that some things you say can offend others to please think before you send the message.

Don't encourage this guy. He seems to live in a parallel universe. Or should that be paranoid universe?

I agree; I'm located in the same cheesy place with an OSF rooted and running CM Green v5 and don't come in asking silly questions.... :)

It's totally illegal, if busted, you get fined and if your neighbours network is unsecured (you did not hack into it) he will get fined as well, because its his duty to secure his internet. Or at least that's the way it is in belgium

well the true about this story , i have been caught years ago in my car and my laptop and 2 cops pretty much jump on me...after an idiot filed a complain against me using his open network.

I spent 2 hours at the police office explaining what I did and fill paperwork,..., and the procuror sent me 500 francs fine !!! (around 400 euro)

i did a total opposition and the court didn't want go any further with this.I told them i will fight all I can.

so i think in switzerland, if you pay the fine you are guilty, if you dont pay you are innocent. :)

That is assuming his neighbors *don't* want him using their wifi.

And personally if its open and they didn't say you could use it I still wouldn't, unless you asked and they said yes (for some bizzare reason)

In Finland it's legal to use neighbours open wifi. It's neighbours own fault if he is stupid and doesn't secure it.

can i make a polite request for the OP to stop creating 5 new topics a day on topics like this....

its cluttering up the forum.

if you have a valid question (related to the blade!) that you can not find an answer to (after searching) then by all means create a topic.

however something like this one is totally unnessesary. if you just type it in to google you will get the answer instantly!

cheers.

You have evidence of this?

Where are you located?

Plus time has passed and you're not sat in your car stealing wifi......so why worry?

Just be aware that the network you're connecting too may be able to Firesheep you and could be logging all your traffic..........but I doubt it.

IMO these kinda posts should be in http://android.modaco.com/category/364/general-discussion/ as there nothing to do with the blade not going to take any action but op: in the future it would be a good idea if you could post non related topics there.

cheers

IMHO that is illegal!

Think about it, I buy a book from a bookshop, and read it in the garden, next door neighbour reads it via his/her binoculars/telescope - I'd think - "hey I bought that book for myself" but I digress.

It is irresponsible/immoral to be sponging his/her bandwidth - so what if his/her network is open, the least you could do if you're an honest and straight person is knock on their door and inform them of it.

Leeching other's bandwidth at their cost without them knowing that their next bill coming in the post possibly with a threatening paragraph from their ISP to say - "cut down the bandwidth or we'll cut you off and leaving them in the lurch"!

That is plain wrong - simple as that. Do the decent thing and go and tell them and who knows - he/she will be forever in your debt thanking you for closing up the weakness in their wifi system. Boils down to two things:

  • Leech their wifi bandwidth - you're a sponger (being selfish and not give a fiddler's fart about your next door neighbour nor the cost either)
  • Be honest and decent and tell them, don't care if they go into dummy mode and go "huh" at you, just effin tell 'em and nail up the security hole in their wifi - they will appreciate and trust you then - more respect and maybe might slip a crisp shiny 20quid into your hand!

Bottom line - don't give 'em a heart attack when they get their next bill from their ISP = bad karma for you! :)

I think it's unethical too.

But there are crackpots like my cousin, who leaves his WiFi open as a "social service" for his neighbors. :) So if your neighbor is a crackpot, you might be lucky.

(He put in a password when we told him about the possible security issues, BTW)

here in switzerland WIFI is illimited.

open interne?t, is it like an open car, you jump insiden and go?

or a open house, you go inside, go in the fridge, drink a beer a watch TV because the door was unlocked?

what about smeling barbecue of your newbor?

or watch TV of your neighbour from the sidewalk?

or peep your neighbour girlfriend?

is it really immoral?and what about my rights as human citizen?

well even if it was legal it is immoral. And if you doing some heavy P2P, owner (and you) could have big big trouble.

is it really immoral?and what about my rights as human citizen?

woot? Wanna write bullshits over the internet - pay for it. Simple as that. WWW is not required to live like water (etc)
