Guest k0zmic Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 Download a calculator off the Market. Or do x/y x 100. Assuming x and y are the numbers that you want to find a percentage of.

Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 To be honest I don't see the problem with k0zimic's method... And there isn't any harm in making you think a bit more, eh?
Guest Searcher2 Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 To be honest I don't see the problem with k0zimic's method... And there isn't any harm in making you think a bit more, eh? Same here. Doing a square root of something isn't usually as easy as moving a decimal place 2 positions to get a percentage. I suppose a reverse argument could be that in general use people are more likely to want a percentage than a square root.... I always found it hard to appreciate my ex's problems with being able to work out 10% of a figure in her head.

Oh really if its bugged you enough to make a thread then surely you can just get another calculator app?
Guest Le Bar Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 If you want to work out how much your investments will appreciate at 4% interest, multiple the original by 1,04. Kartoffelkopf is your uncle, etc etc :)
Guest k0zmic Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 Oh really if its bugged you enough to make a thread then surely you can just get another calculator app? This. The Square root is there because the dev of the calculator probably thought you can't find a square root without the button whereas you can find a percentage just with the standard numbers and symbols. I've actually used square root a fair few times, mainly for Pythagoras' theorem and for percentages I just do the method on my 1st post. If there's something more complex I need to do I just use a Casio calculator.
Guest achromic Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 Or, an alternative method: write your own. I didn't like the built in calc on an old winmo phone, so I wrote an new one, simple
