There is no risks if you follow these steps

1.) Make sure your battery is got at least 40% of charge

2.) use md5 hash to check your download is not corrupt

3.) Do not delete anything from the image folder

4.) Eject TF card from computer safely

There isn't really an official method. The Windows method is probably closest to 'official' but that's more risky than this recommended TPT Method (I think).

If your phone was sold with 2.2 then you don't need to. But if it was sold with 2.1 then copy image folder to tf card are fire away!

I can make a update that can put apps into /system.

but small system will not fit to any rom.

For most compatible with all rom, use 2mb cache, 160mb system, 294mb data. rom like Cyanogenmod 7 can grow in size. This has happened recently with the upgrade from Android 2.3.3 to Android 2.3.4 base which made the rom need a minimum of 140MB system.
