Guest DPuppet Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 Hey guys, I've found recently that more and more frequently I'm getting pop-up warnings when using either Dolphin Mini or the stock browser along the lines of "This certificate is not from a trusted authority". Weird thing is that this is on reputable websites! The certificate error warning usually mentions something like Digicert.com or GoDaddy.com. For example when logging onto Facebook (I have set my account to use https wherever possible), I'll get the following warning: ISSUED TO: Common name: cdn4.eyewonder.com Organization: cdn4.eyewonder.com Organizational unit: Domain control validated ISSUED BY: Common name: Go Daddy Secure Certification Authority Organization: GoDaddy.com, Inc Organizational Unit: http://certificates.godaddy.com/repository VALIDITY: Issued on: 10/10/2009 Expires on: 10/10/2011 The date/time settings of the tablet seem to be current when I've checked. Is there any chance this could be some form of malware/virus? Should I be changing passwords to any secure site I've logged onto? I haven't downloaded many apps and I'm pretty sure nothing since these errors became more frequent. I've uninstalled Dolphin mini to see if that helped but I still get the same problem using the stock browser - I'm fairly sure I had set Dolphin mini to clear the cache on exit... could it be anything to do with cookies? Any help/advice would be much appreciated, sorry if this seems a daft question! I've tried searching the forum but don't think there has been any other posts here regarding something like this?... Cheers! :)
Guest IanTurner Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 (edited) It will be caused by third party advertising which is used to finance various free sites and is a known weak point for malware attack. There was an outbreak a few months ago involving the fake antivirus warnings exploiting weaknesses in unpatched java and acrobat plugins. Just hit cancel and ignore it. Websites should not be using material they do not vet or control themselves and on a normal pc I would recommend using a browser with an adblock plugin even though this undermines forums financing as the security of your personal data is more important. Don't think adblocking is currently available on android browsers but may be wrong. Hmmm seems more recent editions of corvus block, dolphin has a hit and miss adblocker and someone just started a thread on adfree. Edited June 21, 2011 by IanTurner
Guest DPuppet Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 Ah right fair enough then, do you think it's ok just to hit ignore on the browser then? Forgot to mention beforehand that I'm using the r8 Modaco ROM. It's annoying that it seems to be happening a lot more recently, although this might be a result of changing Facebook account settings to try to default with an SSL encryption? Is that's what would trigger these warnings? As long as you think it's not a serious problem or malware of any kind then fair enough, but I'm curious as to whether or not anyone else has come across this while using the Vega? Searching this forum about this topic doesn't seem to bring much up about a similar issue. Cheers again for replying Ian! :)
