SMS Default Numbers

Complete Newbie here :)

I've just got myself a ZTE-Blade/Orange San Fran, which has been FroYo'd to Swedish Spring RLS5. I'm perfectly happy with it, and it all seems to work OK, but it has one little niggle.

If I go directly to Messaging and type in the contact name in the box it brings up a list of all the numbers and e-mail addresses that contact has, ordered alphabetically, so Home comes before Mobile. Is there a way to restrict it to just showing mobile numbers? I have set the mobile number as default in the actual contact card it doesn't seem to make a difference in the message app.

I'm using gmail for both e-mail and my address book synced with the phone.

Any suggestions please? I'm not above using a different SMS client if I have to B)
