Guest atomickarma Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Hi guys I'm having trouble getting the K3805z dongle (new from Vodafone this morning) to work with my Vega. I'm using the back button method at boot to get into USB host mode, but the dongle light flashes red and displays on the Vega as "damaged USB storage" - I presume this is the case because it also has a microSD slot which I'm Not using. I wanted to check if there was anything I'm doing wrong, or if the fact that I'm using VegaComb might be preventing this from working? Cheers Christian

Cheers Christian I think the problem with dongles like the K3805z is that they default to a flash store on the device that holds the Vodafone software. Once that is installed (on a Windows PC for example), the device gets a code to switch off that flash and behave just as a modem. There was some notes somewhere in one of the 3G threads here on how to send an AT command to the dongle to turn off the flash.

Guest atomickarma Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Cheers Dave, I'll have a look for that! Ah, alas, I had already tried this (didn't realise the commands beginning "AT" were called "AT commands" - D'oh!) The commands listed so far in the big dongle thread don't seem to work for this device :)
Guest trevor432990 Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Vegacomb is still very Beta apparently so I would try going to something like Corvus 5 and see if it works on that. :)

Guest simonta Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Yep, whatever you do, you'll need to turn off the USB storage.
Guest atomickarma Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 Yep, whatever you do, you'll need to turn off the USB storage. Cheers Simonta, thought as much. Is there a recommended 3G dongle that is particularly easy to get online with?
Guest buyadroid Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 Huawei E1750 disable cdrom and sd storage Also with device off. Plug in 3g usb stick power on vega, press and hold back button when you see the backlight come on. release back button after honeycomb logo disappears. The usb stick should be flashing green or blue
