Guest RussellS Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 Hi, can someone give any advice on this please. I have my SF setup and linked to my Google account which has a credit card asigned to the Google Checkout so I can purchase apps etc from the Android market. My son also has an Android phone (Motorola Milestone) and there are a couple of games that he would like which are $0.99 each. Now my sons phone is linked to his Google account but, obviously, he doesn't have a credit card to link to it so he cannot purchase apps from the Market. Is it possible for me to purchase the apps on my phone using my account and then back them up with Titanium Backup and transfer them to his phone or would the system know that they were on a phone with the wrong Google account. If this is not possible is there any other way to purchase apps without a credit card. I would have thought this would be a common requirement but I cannot find any info about it from Google. For obvious reasons I don't want to link my credit card to his Google account, not because I don't trust my son, but I wouldn't lend my credit card to anyone. Thanks for any advice.
Guest targetbsp Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 The titanium backup method wouldn't work. They;d need to be related to the google account used on the phone. You can delete the card afterwards by going to edit payment methods in google checkout

I did wonder if that would be the case. You can delete the card afterwards by going to edit payment methods in google checkout I hadn't thought of that. That might be a good way of doing it. Thanks
Guest hugobosslives Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 er titanium would work (cos I've done it) you just can't link the app to the market (well not legally). this means you don't get the updates. actually thinking about it the whole thing is probably illegally as your copying a an app. tho as long as your intent is not to pirate the app (as it sounds like you genuinely want to pay for the app on just one phone) you could do it.

Doesn't the app then fail the market licence check when you load it? I spose it might depend on the app as to whether it makes such a check? Edited June 24, 2011 by targetbsp

In CM7 you might be able to disable the license check thing with the permission management feature.
Guest RussellS Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Thanks for all the replies and ideas guys, it is much appreciated. actually thinking about it the whole thing is probably illegally as your copying a an app. tho as long as your intent is not to pirate the app (as it sounds like you genuinely want to pay for the app on just one phone) you could do it. Your right, I do want to actually pay for the app, I'm not interested in pirating it or anything like that. However, I don't have any issues with breaking a license agreement by moving the paid app to another phone if it will work. It will still have been paid for and will still only be installed on one phone albeit a different one to the one it was downloaded on. As it stands though. I think I will go with targetbsp's suggestion of temporarily adding my credit card to my son's Google account and then deleting it once the app has been purchased. I think this seems like the easiest solution and, obviously, the most legal. Thanks again
