Which Browser?

Hi,

I just bought a Viewsonic Viewpad 10S and I'm not really happy with the default browser (don't know what it's called, it just says "Browser").

I'm looking for something similar to Google Chrome; my main requirement is the synchronization of my Chrome bookmarks.

Any tips?

I'm completely new to this, so would also need advice on how to remove the old browser and install the new.

Thanks a lot.

Welcome to the forum.

As browsers can be quite an individual thing, it would be best to try a few to see which one you like best. My suggestions would be Miren, Dolphin, Skyfire or Opera. They are all available on the market.

Edit: I'm assuming you have market installed. If you have then they download and install automatically. If you haven't got market then search the boards for a bolt on version of market and install that first.

Just an FYI if you're trying out different browsers - I've found that Opera Mobile gives by far the smoothest scrolling experience.

I have tried a couple over the last few days and so far the default browser is working best for me, I am using corvus5. When you get used to the way it opens new tabs and pages and add a few useful addon programs (a text clipper for one) it works well. I will try a few more over the next few days and give you my feedbacon

So far I have found dolphin HD to be very slow but functional and skyfire is ok but a bit slower than the stock browser. I did have a issue with my wifi not working properly when I tried dolphin so I will try it again to give it a fair chance

Edit. :) feedbacon, auto correct says the funniest things!

You'd think that Android and Google would work together to create a version of Chrome. I use Chrome as my default browser on my W7 netbook.

I have been using opera mobile for quite a while on my galaxy s, and now on the pov. The scrolling is smooth like no other browser thanks to the hardware rendering. I used Miren before, which is pretty good as well and has a great tab system.

Well after a great tip off by Newbie5 about the latest opera browser, although in relation to his great vegacomb rom, i decided to give the new version a go even though i was still on the standard vega rom and it now has a very handy new option.

If you go to the settings screen and then advanced you can change from tablet to desktop and it does seem to make a difference.

I have tried all kinds of websites whilst in desktop mode and not once has it shown anyhing other than the full website.

Now with this and the tabbed browsing i think it has the edge over the standard browser for me.

Maybe worth another look at the latest version from the market.

Jason.

There is a new version of Opera out today with a few updates including curing the text dissapearing in some text boxes.

The stock browser IS a android version of Chrome. (Chrome sync is built in to the HC browser version)

As the stock is a version of Chrome there should be an option somewhere to sync Chrome bookmarks, it's built into the HC version and must be somewhere in the other versions perhaps as an add-on.
