Guest TimboDavis Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 Hi all, I hope somebody out there might be able to help with my VPN. I'm using Modaco r8 and have attempted to connect to a paid-for VPN using the normal settings method. Their tech support guys have monitored and searched the VPN logs and said that I haven't even attempted to connect - that there has been no sign of me at all. My internet connection works fine, I'm able to browse normally here (in the UK). I have treble and quadruple-checked all of the settings detailed by them but still no joy. Does anybody know if r8 has VPN issues/problems, is there a specific step I must carry out prior to entering all of the VPN settings or can anybody suggest an alternative app from market that might help me out (with a little idiots guide would be much appreciated). As you can probably tell, I'm a total newb to android VPN configuration. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. Timbo D

I've had VPN working (or at least connected) so isn't a vega problem, haven't tried on R8 however.

Guest TimboDavis Posted June 29, 2011 Report Posted June 29, 2011 (edited) Well, I tried em out Hypo but no go unfortunately, thanks anyway dude! If there's any genius out there who might have a look at a couple of bits of logs here, maybe you could decipher them for me and tell me what's happening/not happening I might be able to make a more detailed Google search to find a solution. Any takers please guys???? Here's the logs, just in case; tried PPTP and L2TP IPSec + PSK (one under the other) Thanks all! I'm using OpenVPN with the VegaComb ROM. I would suggest using "OpenVPN settings" and "OpenVPN installer"; both available on the market. I used the free VPN accounts avilable at freeusvpn ( http://www.freeusvpn.com /) to get myself up and running before switching to my subscription VPN provider (who by the way are privateinternetaccess (https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/ ); they used have an advert on the right-hand side of the home page. They have blindingly good deals if you pay for 12months and a choice of 6 servers - 3 in the USA, 1 in the UK & 1 in Switzerland - and you can switch them in seconds.) Edited June 29, 2011 by xathras

Timbo My apologies to you Timbo, there was one thing I forgot to mention (it's too hot to think right now). I was in the same situation as you, apparently with everything properly set up but unable to connect. Then I found out that I had do some port forwarding. Check your router documentation and ask your vpn provider if you have to open some particular ports. Here's a screenshot of the relevant section in my router.

I really appreciate you taking the time to help me with this! There were 2 things really. Firstly, I'd been using the tcp-ovpn config (like a bloody idiot!) which was the main thing but I have now opened some ports on my router as well. I'm now all connected and a VERY happy bloke! Thanks once again bud! Timbo

Guest d1dd1 Posted June 29, 2011 Report Posted June 29, 2011 I just tried the VPNC widget from market, which is used for connections to CISCO or Fritz VPN networks. There is an option to "check the prerequisites" I got a lot of errors with the VegaComb ROM (missing a modified tun.ko). With CM7, it should work according to the test but I'm still playing with the configs :) Any idea how to add the special VPN support to VegaComb ? Thanks
