Froyo problems with wifi/Bluetooth

Hi all

Migun wrote a query regarding why the Froyo update did not correct a problem with wifi/Bluetooth connectivity that existed with Eclair.

ZTE is very intrigued by this issue and also very keen to ensure that the same issue does not exist in forthcoming Gingerbread products. If anyone can supply any more information about this issue, then I will make sure ZTE sees this as a matter of urgency.

Thanks for getting us a response from ZTE :)!

How can they be intrigued with something that exists since Eclair (2.1) ?

Don't they do some testing before releasing a product, because I saw the wifi problems mentioned on the forum in the first week of sales.

I can confirm these issues as well.

The first two seem improved on the Gingerbread leak (for me).

The connection problems seem to be with NetGear or rebranded NetGear routers e.g. Virgin Media ones in particular.

Odd, my Gen1 Blade running FLB R11 reconnects to my Virgin Media Super Hub (Made by netgear) every time I bring it out of sleep.

Mine seems to have issues on CM7 mainly.

However, on SS and the Leaked ROM it's fine most of the time.

Other's who have Wi-Fi issues seem to have Netgear routers more often than not.

Mostly Bluetooth problems.

I cannot handle phone calls thru car speakers. I'm able to pair and connect with radio, to import phone book from phone. Since i installed a new ZTE 32 kernel, it connects automatically, even in sleep mode. Cyanogenmod 7.1 nightly # 120, Mercedes Class E(2008).

Any advice ?

My previous OSF using JJR9 and my current one using SSr5 both have problems with wifi range / connection with my belkin router.

It is fine upto about 20 feet then drops off dramatically.

Both bluetooth & wifi are disconnected when the screen turns off, no matter what the wifi sleep policy is set to, in all Blade Froyo & Eclair roms (and CyanogenMod Gingerbread, which has to use the Froyo Kernel).

Losing wifi connection also means that there is no data connection at all when the screen is off if it was connected to wifi with the screen on & the wifi sleep policy is set to 'never'. So no email notifications, or anything.

Those bugs appear to have been fixed in the recent leaked version of their Gingerbread rom. I'm not sure if they're fixed on the recent China Unicom 2.2.2 rom or not.

The wifi wont reconnect to certain brands of routers after disconnecting & forces the user to reboot their wifi router to get the Blade connected again. A more minor issue is when it wont reconnect until wifi has been turned off & on again on the Blade. These wifi bugs are still not fixed in the Gingerbread leak.

There's another bluetooth problem, audio doesn't come through the car speakers when connected through bluetooth on my Mercedes A class, other people with different models of Mercedes cars have the same problem (it may also affect other cars & bluetooth headsets) - there's a thread on the issue here: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...h-car-speakers/

Also, in the leaked Gingerbread rom, the custom ZTE contacts & dialler software totally breaks SIP internet calling, that's a big new feature added to Gingerbread. If we replace the ZTE dialler software with more standard versions then it works perfectly. The ZTE dialler also breaks Facebook contact sync in both Froyo & Gingerbread roms.

Another bug common to all ZTE roms is that most VOIP apps, like Skype, will always play audio through the external speaker, rather than the earpiece, which makes them totally unusable on the Blade. The CyanogenMod team fixed this by patching libaudio.so to work around the issue.

FM radio causes battery drain, even when not in use, that problem doesn't seem so bad in ZTE Gingerbread, but it's bad on Froyo.

These are the kinds of bugs that could be fixed by us, the community, if ZTE was more open with it's source code. If you look at the other ZTE device forums here you'll see they seem to be bugs common to all ZTE android devices.
