Guest finin Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 I loaded Ginger Stir Fry Beta 9 and note that just above the phone signal strength bars there is a small number or letter? Does anyone know what this is and how to switch it off? Ta. Fin
Guest rockstarszzzz Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 (edited) Since you are new, I think I shouldn't go hard on you. BUT - Where did you get GingerStirFry Beta9 from? - the thread right? SO, why don't you ask the question in THAT thread?! a ) This method of yours will annoy many people. b ) You will get better and more answers if asked IN THE CORRECT thread. c ) This might probably be ignored thread. d ) People will NOTICE your issue and the ROM developer can FIX it if it's in the thread. e ) SEARCH the thread for GingerStirFry - answer is in that thread already. Guest k0zmic Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 It's what type of network you're on I'm assuming, i.e. G is 2G, 3G is 3G and R is Roaming.
Guest finin Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 Jeeze - Rockstarszzzz do you really have to act like global police. Grow up ! When your voice breaks you can chastise me.
Guest rockstarszzzz Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 Jeeze - Rockstarszzzz do you really have to act like global police. Grow up ! When your voice breaks you can chastise me. It's not about acting like global police or not. It's about 'reading' and showing that you have capacity to 'understand' what the forum rules suggest. They are there for a reason.
Guest ThrashMan Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 Jeeze - Rockstarszzzz do you really have to act like global police. Grow up ! When your voice breaks you can chastise me. His response was just and fair. You know how to use a forum so follow the rules, they are the standard rules found on all forums. Use the apropriate thread for questions regarding an item. Do not consider you question so important that a new thread is required.
Guest KingsizeX Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 I loaded Ginger Stir Fry Beta 9 and note that just above the phone signal strength bars there is a small number or letter? Does anyone know what this is and how to switch it off? Ta. Fin My friend if you don't know what the "strange numbers above the signal bars are" you shouldn't be using a Custom Rom at all! Start by knowing your device "as it came" (stock rom) so that you can take advantage of a custom rom when you feel comfortable for the change. It's not sarcasm it is really just an advice... you learned nothing about your stock rom as I see... Another thing, before going all mad about "forum authority" try to learn how things run in here... this is a community not your private forum. There are rules, higher authority and respect for others that give away their hours of work for free! Rockstarszzzz was here before you arrive with your "I do what I want because this is a free world i live in". Respect to be respected, if an older member tells you that you where wrong just apologize and start to do things the right way. Don't act like you are a victim! You where wrong in first place. By the way, that attitude will only make people not wanting to help you, cause really they do it for the benefit of the community not at your private service. Grow up!
Guest wbaw Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 (edited) The letter tells you what type of network you're connected to, H = HSDPA, 3G = 3G, E = Edge, G = GPRS, R = Roaming on another provider's network. You can turn it off by decompiling SystemUI.apk. No need for all the rudeness above, imo. This forum has moderators who decide whether posts are OK to be on the forum or not, none of you guys are moderators. Edited July 2, 2011 by wbaw

Guest unrandomsam Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 His response was just and fair. You know how to use a forum so follow the rules, they are the standard rules found on all forums. Use the apropriate thread for questions regarding an item. Do not consider you question so important that a new thread is required. Keeping everything in the same thread is a dumb idea. single thread single question works best. (then after its answered it drops) That people think putting everything in the same thread is more efficient is ludicrous. Think about the mechanism. For what you suggest to work well the entire design would have to be changed. The benefits of the main rom thread not being full of 30 pages of stuff far outweigh any minor inconvenience of having one thread one question. As a side effect the search tools work alot better. -- "Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule." - Friedrich Nietzsche
Guest finin Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 There's an interesting psychological dynamic going on here which you will see time and again on many forums. New registrant enters the forum and makes one minor stake, immediately he is swooped on by a certain group of individuals. Further enquiry usually reveals that these individuals are young single unskilled males, more often than not unemployed and living in supported accommodation (with parents, family etc). This is what causes the overly aggressive response to what is ultimately a very minor transgression, the cause being a deep-seated feeling of hopelessness or unimportance within the aggressors psyche. If you don't believe me, a brief examination of the posts made by the individuals who found my conduct offended will reveal individuals who generally tend not to contribute in any useful or intelligent sense but spend more time "policing" correspondents on the forum. Whereas those that have posted counselling temperance in relation to my original post, a brief examination of their previous posts will reveal professionals who continue to and have previously contributed enormously to this forum. You can see this dynamic played out in many school yards where individuals with self-worth issues will seek to promote themselves as the defenders of all that is right and proper in society, whereas in reality their conduct suppresses the genius of the many. Incidentally, I'm not a psychiatrist or indeed a psychologist – I am however a lawyer.
Guest k0zmic Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 (edited) You could make a pretty good psychology/psychiatrist. But please paragraph next time :)! Anyway, if you'd like to turn off the icons I can provide you with a SystemUI.apk that doesn't include those icons. Edited July 2, 2011 by k0zmic
Guest finin Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 Very kind k0zmic but now that I know what it is, it doesn't bother me. A bit like the monster under the bed! F.
Guest k0zmic Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 Nah, I had a copy lying around since I used it for something else. Nice analogy.

Incidentally, I'm not a psychiatrist or indeed a psychologist – I am however a lawyer. Lawyer or not, I think I am well impressed with the 'skills' you have. The technique you demonstrated isn't very new to the e-community. It has been introduced more often by users dwelling in an environment where dominance is a life question. The urge to dominate no matter what leads to use of subtle sarcasms and often put-downs in order to increase fear or self-doubt in others. This technique was shown in history by dictators and the kings who loved spreading the empires around the globe. Psychologically I will term it covert-agrressiveness. Making others feel really inadequate despite even knowing them, making them look unworthy in order to defer them - used when slaves were enslaved! I must say, it was and is a very effective way to make others feel weaker, diverge the attention and try to maintain your dominance, be it fake. The personalities who depict the art of covert agrresiveness often enjoy the professions related to shaming tactics. These personalities are born and developed due to underlying feelings of helplessness, anger and a sense of losing control. In real life the glances or the tone of one's voice is more than enough to know how he can go ahead to shame any unknown individual just for the sake of personal satisfaction or as an escape. I am in now way interested in knowing what baseless assumptions are made just by looking into forums. Imagine if all that positive time was used before even creating this thread! I am an Epidemiologist who works full time and works with GSK (google it) without manipulating any individual's ethics and moral just for the sake of his bread. The users who you think are unskilled and unemployed individuals with immense feeling of helplessness and unimportance have contributed much to the forum. They might not have contributed to forum with any software developments but they have invested their time in helping others. I am pretty sure their contribution (no matter how small) overrides your contribution of making a sole thread and then trying to flame it by using insulting comments for other individuals. I hope you enjoy your stay at Modaco whenever you seek help and guidance. Don't take any of these comments too personally as other and I don't come here just for the sake of wasting time, we are here because we know what 'community' means and we know how to work for it not otherwise.

Guest mELIANTE Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 So, your a lawyer. That explains why you think your problem is more important than the ones other people post in the correct topic.
