Getting a new sim card to work in an OSF

Hi

I've just bought a new contract phone from T-Mobile - my intention was to sell the new phone and use the new sim in my unlocked OSF/ZTE. When I put the sim into the OSF, it registers as T Mobile, lets me phone and the internet is ok, but I can't receive calls and text messages don't work at all.

Does anyone know what is going on here? I tried entering some MMS info I found in another thread, but nothing seems to work.

Odd, try nandroid/backup your current ROM and then flash something else e.g. the Ginger Leak by Wbaw with the new SIM in.

Er no. How do you do that?

Check the paper/card or whatever you popped the SIM out of, I think when you insert the SIM card a text message comes asking you to activate.

You could try put it in the contract phone or another one and activate it from there and then put it back in your OSF.

I have a funny feeling my friend couldn't use the contract sim from his iPhone with anything else. It only works in the iPhone, some how it identifies the phone to the network or something?

Maybe im going mad but I could be wrong.

Well, do the obvious, make sure the sim works in the contract phone. And then check your APN settings (do a search)

Yeah, charging it now. Not happy!

Right, have charged new phone and entered new sim - it's still the same. So, this is a brand new sim (I got one today from T Mobile), put in a brand new LG Optimus One handset, with the exact same results as the old sim put into an unlocked OSF.

I can only conclude it's a problem with the line and/or number.

Definitely not happy!

Bummer. I think it would be best to just call T-Mobile and ask for a replacement or maybe they can force it to activate?

Already been down that route. It's not a problem with the handset or even the sim, I suspect. I think it's do to with me already having an existing TMobile contract. Will speak to their Latvian call centre again tomorrow...

ETA: when I dial out on the new sim, it flashes up "divert activated" before it connects. When I put the sim into another T Mobile handset to test, it reads Active Incoming Calls Divert" before connecting. I mentioned this to technical support this afternoon, but it's still doing it. Is this significant?

I don't think so, it happens on my friends phone.

I've had a go at entering APN details - I wonder whether the problem lies with these? The pre-entered T Mobile one is the same as listed below, except for number 15, which is just left blank on my phone. Would this make a difference?

For MMS-

1. Press the Menu key

2. Tap on Settings

3. Tap on Wireless & Networks to select.

4. Scroll down and tap on Mobile networks

5. Tap on Access Point Names to select.

6. Press the Menu key

7. Tap on New APN

8. Tap Name then enter T-Mobile MMS select OK

9. Tap APN then enter general.t-mobile.uk select OK

10. Tap Username then enter t-mobile select OK

11. Tap Password then enter tm select OK

12. Tap MMSC then enter http://mmsc.t-mobile.co.uk:8002 select OK

13. Tap MMS proxy then enter 149.254.201.135 select OK

14. Tap MMS port then enter 8080 select OK

15. Tap APN type then enter mms select OK

16. Press the Menu key

17. Tap Save

18. Press the Home key
