Since there is a very easy NVFlash root/unbrick method created by Rayman and Bumble-Bee from androidroot.mobi,

I noticed there isn't a GUI made for it so I created one myself. It was written using AutoIt scripting.

This is now a tested and beginner friendly release, I would appreciate any feedback though.

I have tried all the options in the GUI several times and have not encountered any problems so far. I have ran it successfully it on 2 different TF101's. Both of them are B40 models.

There have been reports that some B70 and newer models have changed the secure boot key so that this no longer works. If you have a B70 model you can try and see if it still works and report here.

This has been tested on Windows 7 32bit and 64bit only. This is root for the WW and US TF101's.

The stock rom images included are extracted from 8.6.5.9, 8.6.5.7 and 8.6.5.6 official ASUS firmwares. The CWM recovery.img is v3.1.0.1 Solarnz from XDA.

How to use:

NOTE: Put your pad into USB debugging mode before you start. Go into Settings > Applications > Development and tick the box.

1. Once its done downloading, double click it to auto install and run. Ignore the program compatibility nags if they pop up.

2. If you've never installed the ADB/NVFlash USB drivers before then click Install USB drivers. Then plug the USB cable in to your PC. The USB drivers will confirm it is installed successfully.

3. Turn off your pad but keep it plugged in to your PC. Press and hold volume up and the power button together for a few seconds until you hear a sound from your PC if your speakers are on. The Nvidia USB driver will confirm it is installed successfully. There is no need to reboot.

4. Now that the drivers are installed you are ready to root. Press 'NVFlash Mode' to get it ready for rooting.

Your pads screen will come on and display that you have entered NVFlash recovery mode. Continue with the steps.

Remember to backup first before rooting if this is your first time rooting. You should copy your backup images to a safe place as doing another backup will overwrite the previous one.

5. Superuser should now be in your app drawer if you installed the Root Tools. Get Root Checker from the market to see if you have root access and busybox installed correctly.

6. If you want to un-root your tablet to the stock rom then download the Stock Images or if you made a backup and it was un-rooted you can use that instead.

NOTE: Update your ROM with the official update from ASUS before you root. If you are rooted then un-root before you apply offical update.

8.6.5.9 and 8.6.5.7 WW

NOTE: The GUI will self extract to the C: drive and autorun. The Stock Images are required if you want to un-root to stock and you have not made a backup. It will self extract to the Stock-Images folder.

Q & A

Q: How do I go into ClockWork Mod recovery?

A: Press and Hold volume down with the power button for a seconds until you see the boot loader come up on the display, then press volume up.

Q: I have a B70/80 model, can I root?

A: Some B70 models have been reported rootable but B80 are locked for the time being. You can try to root without harm as it will just fail if you have got a locked model.

Q: Do I have to un-root to apply OTA updates?

A: Yes. The update will most likely check your system for file integrity. So if you have modified any system files the update will most likely fail with the dreaded triangle and exclamation mark.

Get Root Checker from the market to see if you have root and busybox installed. Go into your app drawer and look for Superuser. If you pass those checks then you should have root.

why no download

Now that honeycomb 3.2 is out for the TF101, it is out of date. I will update it when i've got time this week. I also have a working sound tweak for the built-in speakers making it louder and sounding better than default, basically I turned on SRS processing and tweaked the equaliser. Why Asus did not include these sound features in the gallery and music players is a mystery since that was one of their selling points. Maybe we should bug them about it on facebook and something will be done. Anyway will try and update it for this weekend but no guarantees.

Fantastic!

I just bought a TF101 in the US which is running unrooted 3.2, will this utility work with it?

Hi, this looks very interesting. I'm getting confused looking at all the methods/options to root and/or install CWM so this seems to simply things. I just have a couple of questions before I try it. I'm currently on a stock 3.2.

1) Does the download of the Rootkit include the CWM setup/files within it or do I have to download this separately?

2) If I root through your method, how will this affect future OTA firmware updates from ASUS - will I have to unroot before they download/work?

Thanks for your help

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get this working with my B70 rev Transformer ;( Reading up on it, I don't think there is an exploit for Aus B70s running 3.2 (8.6.5.7). Waiting for someone to leak the key, for Asus to release an unlocked bootloader, or some dedicated soul to find a workable exploit. Thanks for the GUI though, certainly makes things easy!

Thanks for this program, I have a transformer running 3.2 and build 8.6.5.7 and it worked great. The only thing is, how do Ii know if clockworkmod has installed. I had tried to root my machine using the files and routine on Eeepadhacks, this worked until reboot when my screen went phsycadelic.

Once again thanks

shutdown your tablet, push power while pushing sound down, hold twice. then you will have something on the screen release then push sound up.

you will be in the CWM menu.

I have successfully rooted a B70 using this and installed CWM. When I shut down I can select to reboot successfully into root. However when trying to run rom manager and reboot into root it doesnot work- the TF101 simply boots as normal. Any suggestions ?

Glad you got it rooted with a B70. I gather that "reboot into root" in that you mean reboot into CWM recovery. There are a few options you can try that are on the market. Modaco's of course and the zephyr team's one which is free. Theres also a more fancy one with more reboot options that supports the mobiles as well as the transformer.

If your using the prime rom on xda, that has reboot recovery options built-in to the power off options when you long press the power button. It can be installed seperately through CWM if you don't want to use prime but requires a deodexed framework, so a custom rom is your only option there if you want to go that route. We need Paul to release his HR9 MCR with those reboot options built-in too.
