Guest Manbag Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 Hi Guys First post in this board. I've been a member of member of MoDaCo for a while now, having bought the ZTE Blade last year. I'm looking to get a Vega. I'm planning on installing r8 but also want to use a larger Micro SD card. Here's my plan of attack with a few queries I've got. Any help would be massively helpful! - Order from Currys - seems to be the cheapest? - Order 32Gb card - can't find a list of cards on here that work? Will I need to format this to allow me to save apps to SD? - Install drivers using http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...iver-installer/ - Copy contents of supplied Micro SD card to new 32Gb card - Install clockwork recovery using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041036 - Install r8 using Clockwork

I now undertand about Clockwork and how easy it is once it's installed! My main concern is not being able to save apps to SD with a new card?! I'm terrified of partitioning/formatting!

I'm terrified of partitioning/formatting! i partitioned and formatted mine with clockwork mod as it was the most reliable for use with the vega, some members had problems with the card being recognised afer formatting with windows. I used ext3 as the partition. there is a lot of info on here some quite recent about sd card and which are ok etc just search you should be fine.

First of all welcome, i use app2sd (which you can get from the market) to save my apps onto my sd without having to format/partition the sd, but if you use link2sd (which i think comes in R8) you will have to partition the sd card which formats the sd so backup, and when i used link2sd (dont use it no more) i partitioned the sd using clockwork. Personal choice but i prefer app2sd because you dont have to partition. Also from your first post it seem that you are going to choose R8 which is good but i recommend Corvus5 because its the fastest and most stable out of all the roms. :-)

My main concern is not being able to save apps to SD with a new card?! I'm terrified of partitioning/formatting! There's nothing to be terrified about if you take the obvious precautions, i.e. backup, backup ,backup. Firstly, your new SD card will come formatted as FAT32, so you can use it straight out-of-the-box. Clockworkmod will enable you to make "nandroid" backups (these are stored on the SD card in:- /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup). You can use TitaniumBackup to make backups of your applications. The free version will do a batch backup of all your apps, but you are limited to restoring apps one-by-one. The paid version of TitaniumBackup will do a batch restore of all your apps, and will also save and synch your backups to your Dropbox account (get a free Dropbox account if you haven't already got one). I use a microSD to USB adapter to copy the SD card to my PC every couple of days.

Guest Richyvrlimited Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/advent-vega-t...258762-pdt.html there ya go :) Note the 'unavailable for home delivery' status.... Also I bet if you check your local store there's zero stock.
Guest Dave Marchant Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 Note the 'unavailable for home delivery' status.... Also I bet if you check your local store there's zero stock. I just checked and there is stock in two out of my three nearest stores. They haven't all gone yet but you may need to look around.
Guest Manbag Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 I just checked and there is stock in two out of my three nearest stores. They haven't all gone yet but you may need to look around. I've checked everywhere near me. May I ask where you found stock?
Guest Adam:) Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 i just wondered down to my local store and it was in stock :)
Guest Dave Marchant Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 I've checked everywhere near me. May I ask where you found stock? Slough, Maidenhead but none left in High Wycombe. May not be of much help to you if you are nowhere near those stores though.
