Guest Logseman Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 I'm having lots of trouble connecting my Advent Vega to my parents' home network. It is encrypted through the WEP standard. It keeps scanning and disconnecting, though the network is detected and it is not shown "out of range". I've tried with both CyanogenMod and Corvus5 to no avail. On the contrary, my home has a WPA2 connection which is detected every time.

Funnily enough I just had a similar issue while trying to connect to a new wifi network in my brothers flat, and kept thinking that I had the wrong password however what worked for me (on CM) was that the router had as well as the Wireless PIN (I think it's set up with WPA2 (2 creds.) as default, I'll sheck and report back) and also a passphrase. To connect to the network on my laptop the PIN worked, while the passphrase worked with the Vega. If you don't or can't find any additional pin could could try, if viable to change the password encryption by logging into the router, if you don't know how let me know and I should be able to guide you.
Guest trevor432990 Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 Check which wi-fi channel is being used as well :)
Guest Logseman Posted July 4, 2011 Report Posted July 4, 2011 Sigh... I'm using channel 6. I'm able to change the router's encryption system, but then I would need to re-wire the whole assortment of devices there are in the house, and I would need a bit of time for it to work.
Guest winnipeg Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 I have experienced issues with WEP WEP is an older encryption method and not very secure so maybe does not get tested as rigorously as WPA. There are a surprising number of installations using it as I understand it can be cracked in minutes with software tools. Current setup = Vegacomb 1.6 Home WPA - 02 Wireless = Works everytime. Two tests: Site with 3com managed wireless and WEP = connect OK (used autoproxy to get past proxy) Site with not managed multiple access points same SSID = connect OK (could not get past the proxy by the same method). No other devices have this problem. Have also had the not connecting to WEP before. (scanning - obtaining IP address - scanning............) I think there are some different wireless drivers in different Kernels – I seem to remember Buzzing Bee on XDA had made some kernel improvements. Not sure if Vegacomb is using that Kernel. Sorry the above may not directly help, not had time to check anymore but just pass the above on for info. I tend to think the WIFI hardware in the Vega or maybe drivers have "issues" and general sensitivity is a bit lower that other devices I use - Laptops - Phones.
