Guest Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 Hi folks, I've searched about but can't find the answer. How can I confirm which screen I have as selling the phone? My build info says JJ RSL9 now since I updated it so I can't use the code that was there! Mr Pigfish says it is a Gen1. Thanks again folks!
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 (edited) Unless you have a CWM backup of when you first got the phone, then there is no way to check other than looking at it physically, in which case there would be a thread somewhere else here on how to tell the differences... Personally I find the easiest way of telling mine is OLED is the way it goes slightly pink/red on low brightness settings, though i've never seen a TFT san... Also, in the app drawer, on full brightness especially, if you can see a sort of pink around the edges of text (look closely)(probably on the right as mine is) then it would be an OLED. If not its a TFT.. Edited July 5, 2011 by Mushroom_Lord

Ok thanks for confirming my thoughts mate, I think I checked the build originally and when choosing roms that I thought it was a TFT! :)
Guest Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 Sorry can someone also confirm if 2.6.32.9-perf is the latest/best/stable kernal or just tell me anything about it really??? :)
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 Sorry can someone also confirm if 2.6.32.9-perf is the latest/best/stable kernal or just tell me anything about it really??? :) Well not really  I think it would be certainly the best move to update the phone to Swedish Spring 5. (which is the follow on from JJ). However, you may want to put gingerbread on the device. If you want gingerbread you have two options. The easiest would certainly be "Ginger Stir Fry". And to be honest, I don't think the buyer cares much, they will probably mod it again once they have got it
Guest slitz Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 (edited) Turn up the brightness to maximum, go into a room with no lights at all and check the screen. Open up something with black on (app drawer for example), if you can see the screen edge (where the black background of the app drawer meets the screen exterior) and can make out a backlight then it's TFT but if you can't see the screen edge then you're most likely on OLED. Here's a mock up image of what I mean: As shown above you can't really make out where the screen is on the OLED but you can clearly do so on the TFT. Edited July 5, 2011 by slitz

I compared my OLED SF to a TFT. And it looks exactly the same as in the picture
Guest Foordy Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 AMOLED's sell for a higher price as im sure you know and its difficult to be 100% of the screen type, in your circumstance. you could sell it as a AMOLED and being slightly dis-honest, but entirely up to you :)

Guest admanirv Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 I used to have an amoled, the colours were more vibrant but i prefer the sharpness of the TFT screen - blacks are not as good though.
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 I have an amoled and cannot fault it. Until I get screen burn in :) I don't find the fact its "not as sharp" as a tft screen a problem. But then again i've never seen a tft blade

If it mentions SAMSUNG against the glass I think it confirms it as OLED. Anything else is TFT. (think this should go in a sticky admin).
Guest Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 dial *983*24474636# on your phone. If it mentions SAMSUNG against the glass I think it confirms it as OLED. Anything else is TFT. (think this should go in a sticky admin). Tried that but I get an error 'Connection Problem or Invalid MMI Code'. Is it because it's unlocked, rooted, new rom etc???
Guest mk_kev Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 Tried that but I get an error 'Connection Problem or Invalid MMI Code'. Is it because it's unlocked, rooted, new rom etc??? Mine is a Gen1 b10, OSF running SSr5, unlocked (running GIFFGAFF) and rooted and this works for me - so I don't know.
Guest slitz Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 (edited) Those dial codes only work with the ZTE dialer which almost everyone on this board, save a few, seem to hate for a reason I see as pointless. I believe JJ9 doesn't use the ZTE dialer which is why I didn't mention using the dial codes. Edited July 8, 2011 by slitz
Guest Ixipoyas Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 I have the ZTE Dialer and it tells me the same as brj080402
Guest PeterLeics Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 As with all LCDs if you look through a polarised lens, either sunglasses or camera filter, and turn the 'phone through 90 degrees, if it goes totally black it's LCD, if it just goes weird colours without going black it's LED, this works on all LCD displays TVs, Monitors etc etc
