Guest ShahinTehShiz Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 Hi all, I used to be on SS RLS5, and my system info widget used to show a max of around 240mb Ram. I switched to Ginger Stir Fry yesterday, and now I'm lucky to even get 100mb RAM. The phone still works fine, just a little laggy, but I'm unsure if thats because of the RAM or not. Any help is appreciated :) Thanks!
Guest Atomix86 Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 Gingerbread by default gives system apps more RAM to work with, and uses a lot for caching/swapping (it has its own task management system). My Galaxy S for example rarely has more than 100mb free, but works fine either way. Have you got any intensive background apps running?
Guest buneech Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 I must say that i don't give a damn how much RAM is free, as Android system is managing it fine without my interference. The phone works fine (CM7). But for now, i checked it, and have 208MB of RAM free.
Guest JT_daniel Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 Don't really know how much RAM my Blade has free, but GSFb9 works like a charm on my blade. No lag whatsoever and my homescreen is LOADED.
Guest KenBW2 Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 I've recently upgraded to Blue Ginger and have noticed my phone being at the ~100MB free ram mark for the first time since the stock 2.1, which is a very welcome change from CM7. Since I upgraded to Froyo it started killing apps at ~250MB - frustrating. Wonder if it was a kernel thing?
Guest ShahinTehShiz Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 Well after I posted the initial thread, my RAM went back up to the 200's xD
Guest Pierreism Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 the more RAM your system gets the better really. See it as a plus!
Guest wbaw Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 (edited) Free ram is wasted ram, you paid for the ram, so you should use it :) It should sort itself out & kill less important tasks to free ram if it needs to. Also, you probably want to reboot after installing a lot of large apps from the market, because of the market download cache on tmpfs thing. 240mb free ram here, but i don't have much that runs in the background & haven't used it much since the last reboot.
