Rather than add to the mammoth rumour mill in the "exciting news" thread, thought I'd share this line I've just had from PCWorld/Currys.

The websites are not showing the Vega at all now, only peripherals:

Sorry, that quote is from a conversation with customer services, word for word.

He could've been wrong, but it's the most clear line from them yet on the subject.

Try to drill down from tablets, to the vega - click on it and you get a "wonderful" screen listing it as no longer being available, and its not available for home delivery.

Although their site is famously bad for not being kept updated.

So this may well be 50% of the mystery solved at least - whats happening with the Vega.

What we still dont know is what's next......

Come on Advent, spill the beans!!!

It doesn't take a genius to work it out ... The Vega has come to the end of its manufacturing life ... Not really surprising , and i am sure it wont be a surprise when we see a Vega II in 6 months time.

I don't understand where all the 'mystery' is coming from, open your eyes people.

like i said in the rumor mill really cant be 100% about the vega being discontinued but i have been told from our buyers that we are getting a few thousand the week after next. also it would show as unavailable even if all current stock had been sold from the warehouse. the web doesnt take forward orders so once all available stock is sold and if there is no stock instores it would show as unavailable but it is still current line instore.

I was in PCWorld Wed. and chatting to one of there staff. He said that there was a new Advent 2 coming in and would run on the new Android 3. Not sure I would take their word for it 'cause some of the same staff once told me the Origingal Vega was withdrawn around Xmas time

For those of us who went through the pre-christmas "is it in stock yet" dilemma, this is a very familiar situation.

At the time although it was officially on sale from DSG (as it still appears to be here), there was no physical stock available anywhere, except for some fleeting and exciting occasions when the rumour mill would light up the forums and people would log on as soon as possible with credit card to hand.

Let's wait a week or so and see if Kevrae's bulk order does show up - in that case it will go back to being available.

Still struggling to understand after 7 months DSG is still having stock issues... The Advent Vega II doesnt have 6 months to appear..

With all their competitors announcing product DSG's silence is deafening....

Its not really up to DSG though ... They dont manufactuer the device ... its OEM, they dont really care that much as they can just selll other tablets (and do)

Happened to be in there today. Vega display was up but no tablet to be seen, looked as though it had been hastily removed! Got the same quote from the sales guy about a new model. Was a bit coy, had to drag it out of him. Still had some accessories, might check back to see if they get cheaper!

HYPE (noun)

when something is advertised and discussed in newspapers, on television, etc. all the time in order to attract everyone's interest

media hype "There's been a lot of hype around/surrounding his latest film"

I've been put off reading the book by all the hype.

ANTICLIMAX (noun)

an event or experience which causes disappointment because it is less exciting than was expected or because it happens immediately after a much more interesting or exciting event

When you really look forward to something it's often an anticlimax when it actually happens.

Coming home after a trip somewhere is always a bit of an anticlimax.

Even when you win a match there's often a sense of anticlimax - you always feel you could have played better.

I don't really know to believe, If I am honest most employees who work for DSG don't know their arse from their elbow except of course Kev Rae. I mean some of the Tech guys ask you remove the battery from the Vega?

ok i have just been in touch with our store medics, they have informed me that the shipment should have been here this week (week 10) but has been delayed until mid next week at the earliest. the info im getting from them is very certain that we are going to recieve stock soon so it is still shipping and as ive said we are still taking forward orders(instore only) to reflect the new shipment coming in. i cant give a screen print of the info as i got this info from an internal communication system so cannot publish that.

just to recap, cant be sure if it is or isnt definatley going end of line but stock is coming in (last told over 3000).

I used to work for Currys (DSG group) in Ireland about 6 years ago. I was in sales but am a techie at home for a long time.

Honestly, most staff are not techie but some of them really are sharp. It is hard to find them but they are there.

Currently I have the Vega with Paul's rom and moving to Vegacomb 1.7 today when it drops from the heavens! :-)

I am glad for getting a great device, it has should to be such a worthwhile investment. If it no longer available, we may be the lucky few!

I am curious if the rumoured Vega 2's stock Honeycomb rom will be compatible with the current Vega??? wouldn't that be cool!?!

P.S. I use the first person waaaaay too much when I write. ;-D

I just had an interesting conversation with a sales guy in PC World standing beside the gaping hole where Vegas should be!!

Basically nothing sinister as Kevrae says here - their problem is they are sold as fast as they can get them on the shelf. He told me that because of the price point, in this store they are second only to the iPad in sales!

However, there will be a successor in the offing, but for now Vega rules...

Well the vega was temporarily "home delivery" online yesterday and the dock has gone from home delivery to reserve and collect as well so I think they have delivery problems rather than plans for an imminent new model.
