Downclocking and power saving

I'm currently trying to find ways to optimize my power consumption without changing the way I use the phone. What I mean by that is that I still synch and use the phone as I want to, I have set synchs to a schedule via juice defender though. When I listen to music or the clock is after 20.00 I set CPU low respectively screen brightness low via tasker.

I was thinking how much of a difference downclocking really does though.

Also wondering if anyone have other good power saving tips, and remember I don't want to change my usage if the phone so nothing like "stop auto synching" or similar.

I set my phone to change to 2g when screen off and 3g when phone on. when screen is off you don't need superfast email downloads do you....?

set to go to airplane mode from say 1am to 7am.

set a CPU profile when screen off like Max/min 320/122.

turn off wifi when out and about as scanning all the signals takes loads of battery.

etc.....

What application did you use to make those settings ?

Re:2g/3g toggle. That's only possible in CM I think? Otherwise I'd have done that. I'll take a closer look at it for sure.

Tried doing it (using tasker) but it seems that the phones wakes more if I do that than if I just let it stay. Not sure if airplane is worth it as it uses max 1% during the night anyway.

It goes into sleep mode when screen is off so does it matter what cpu speeds are like then? Of course this is when there's nothing keeping the phone awake (such as music, where I already set cpu to 320 max/245 min (or music stutters) via tasker).

I basically always have wifi off as I have none at home and only have access to wifi at my parents or at work.

Also, how much difference does downclocking really make? Any idea?

It's setCPU for the processor speeds, I think.

How did you do the airplane mode time set? I'd definitely use that!

You can use "Tasker" but im not sure if the other guys use something else here:)

Yeah, it is probably Tasker. I think there's AutmomateIt which is similar but free as well.

yeah tasker is rather expensive compared to other apps, but it is a good app

for the 2g/3g thing there are many apps that can do this (just search the market) the most common one is probs juice defender.

tasker is a wicked app. can control pretty much everything on your phone. defo recomend it. but is hard to use at first as the interface is pretty crap as it is very hard to understand until your used to it.

an easy 'task' to run is the airplane mode one. and added bonus of doing this is you don;t get waken up by texts when sleeping you can just pick them up when you get up.

you can use tasker to do otherthings like brightness down at night etc. try it.

for cpu related stuff: use setcpu fullstop

I'm using tasker and if I want to set CPU speed manually I use no frills CPU.

but as no frills cpu is, well, "no frills" it cannot have profiles (i.e changes cpu clock speed when certain events occur, like when screen off etc)

if this is not wanted. i agree no frills would be a good choice.

It seems Juice Defender is only disabling data while screen is off and not switching from 3G to 2G.

True, but if I want to set cpu speeds depending on events I use Tasker (which seems to cover everything).

Setting CPU to 122 and adjust wifi-policy to turn off as soon as screen is shut - has increased my battery with average 5-6 hours on all ROMs - SSRLS5, CM7, GSFB9.

Be a bit careful setting your CPU to 122 if you play music on your phone, it may cause stuttering when playing music when the phone is sleeping. The Wi-Fi policy is what seems to save the most power IMO.
