Guest DWaldie Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 I'm off on my jollies next week but want to use my OSF for calls and texting only. What do I ned to do to make sure ALL data is turned and stays off?
Guest Chris Banks Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 settings > wireless and networks > mobile networks > untick 'data enabled'. (Could just untick data roaming i guess... but above stops all data.)
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks>uncheck everything for now. It wont turn on unless some app turns it on (you can see permissions in the market) Browsers, facebook and twitter etc apps shouldn't turn it on.

I use super task killer and sometimes the likes of facebook are running when I know I haven't started them

Guest DWaldie Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 they start on system start That never ocurred to me. Is there a way of stopping them. I like my phone like my PC; very lean.
Guest Chris Banks Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 Untick data enabled as i said before and it stays off so no charges. Having the facebook app running as you mentioned, wont matter as it will not be allowed to connect, as the poster above yours also said. In response to task killers, have a read of this. http://lifehacker.com/5650894/android-task...ouldnt-use-them

Guest Thar Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 Just to reiterate, unticking data will do what you want. I have a data allowance but recently went abraod and didn't want any surprises when I got home. I unticked data and just used the Hotels wifi to connect to the web, emails etc. I checked my account on return and there were no data charges included.
Guest ShahinTehShiz Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 Also try ringing up your provider, and just tell them simply that you're going abroad, T-Mobile UK allowed me to roam and I didn't recieve any charges when I came back (I used internet etc over there), I don't know if they still do it, or how other companies do it, but its always good to tell them just incase.
Guest Bonfire Boy Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 (edited) I used APNdroid while in Germany last month, started it up before I left the country, stopped it on my return and I had no data charges while away. Worked a treat. Edited July 8, 2011 by Bonfire Boy
