Guest ShahinTehShiz Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 Hey guys, I need a new charger for my blade, and have been looking on eBay, but I know about if you don't use the correct voltage charger then you can ruin your battery. How many volts does the blade charger need to give? And if possible, could someone kindly post a link to a recommended charger? Thanks!
Guest Steep Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 (edited) How many volts does the blade charger need to give? 5v at 700ma or higher will do the trick. Edited July 8, 2011 by Steep
Guest ThrashMan Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 Any charger that has a normal USB port on it will do but, as Steep said, try and get one with at least 700ma (1000ma / 1A) is better.
Guest Jamoh Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 ... And if possible, could someone kindly post a link to a recommended charger? Thanks! Hi, I have used this USB mains charger on my OSF with success. It's output rating is DC 5V at 1000mA. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adapter-Charger-pl...2956&sr=8-2

Would this one be fine? it says 5v / 1000mAh, but doesnt say /1A :S http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ROHS-CE-MAINS-CHARGE...=item33663ef78d
Guest hedgepigdaniel Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 You don't need to look at the power output, because any USB port will conform to the same specification: 5V @ 500mA. If it provides more than 500mA then it will charge faster if the phone is able to use the extra power, but the only important thing is the 5V, which will be the case for any USB port.

Thanks for that! Just one more question, would a blackberry charger work? Everyone in my house has a Blackberry (Curve, 3g, Bold, you name it) but I'm the only one cool enough to have an android

I think my old one is 7v and would cause damage if used on a blade.
Guest shmizan Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 my friend's charger was a Blackberry and it charged slowly - USB Charing. get yourself an hTC charger. it charges fast - AC Charging

Guest k0zmic Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 (edited) Just to add, I use my Kindle charger and a HTC charger and they both work well. Edited July 8, 2011 by k0zmic
Guest swisstourist Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 Just to add, I use my Kindle charger and a HTC charger and they both work well. plug on anything you want, if the charger become too warm after 10 minutes, it means your phone is "sucking" to much juice that it can serve...but i doubt it will happen. u can use all USB you can find around.still I think the shortest cable (20cm)=charge faster
Guest azentner Posted July 10, 2011 Report Posted July 10, 2011 Hi all, Just bought myself a new Blade. And I just joined the forum too (already installed recovery + rom etc. thanks to you guys). I've got a Nokia N86 charger at home (looks kind of like this), it outputs 1200mAh. It seems to charge up the Blade pretty fast. Is there a problem with using a 1200mAh charger instead of 700mAh? Could it damage the battery/phone?
Guest Steep Posted July 10, 2011 Report Posted July 10, 2011 Is there a problem with using a 1200mAh charger instead of 700mAh? Could it damage the battery/phone? No problem at all, the phone pulls what power it needs from the charger and no more, having a charger rated at 1200mAh simply means it won't struggle to give the phone what it needs.

Plse can someone confirm this IS actually how the physics works with lithium cells in mobiles? Use to be that you charged a battery as slowly as possible to minimise stress on the battery & maximise its life. (Lead acid) car batteries are still the same - very fast charging degrades them.
Guest lawhec Posted July 10, 2011 Report Posted July 10, 2011 Is a charger with a 5.7 volt output potentially damaging for a ZTE Blade?

Use to be that you charged a battery as slowly as possible to minimise stress on the battery & maximise its life. (Lead acid) car batteries are still the same - very fast charging degrades them. The charging circuitry is in the phone not the charger (which is really just a plain power supply), so the phone controls the charge amount/time. Having a power supply rated at or above the optimum current for the phone means the charger will not run out of oomph before the battery is properly charged. Underpowered chargers can overheat and may not be able to fully charge the battery. In the case of the car battery, the charging circuitry is in the charger and it's the battery that's dumb, the opposite way round from your phone. Also, for reference, lithium batteries are best charged regularly when they have not dropped too much power, don't let the phone go flat as this shortens the life of the battery considerably. Don't rely on forum posts like this one for your info though, there's plenty of good sources of information out there.
Guest Steep Posted July 10, 2011 Report Posted July 10, 2011 Is a charger with a 5.7 volt output potentially damaging for a ZTE Blade? Well 5.0v is standard for a mobile phone charger but 5.7 is not too high, you wouldn't want to go above 6v in case it damages the charging circuit in the phone. If you look at the battery you'll see it works at about 3.7v but the charge voltage is 4.2v and 1.5v over that isn't too much.

Guest azentner Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Thanks for your replies. I've been using the Nokia charger since, and it's working just fine

I have bought a car charger for my ZTE Blade from a phone shop at a market. I showed them the phone and mentioned that it needs a micro-USB connection. I was completely oblivious to the fact that the voltage has to be right and unfortunately used it straight away. Now it seems that the charging circuit might be damaged. I certainly cannot start up my phone anymore. I wonder if a new battery might help but I fear that my phone has given up the ghost all together. I would be grateful for any advice on rescuing my ZTE Blade if there is anything to rescure. Here is some info on the car charger that I have used: NOK-6500 by ISHA - cellular phone accessories ( www.beulah.co.za ) "12V/24V DC Negative Earth Socket Only"
