best way to demonstrate the touchscreen issues when charging

Hi,

I'm planning to take my vega back to currys to see if they can repair or give me a newer build that doesn't have an unusable touchscreen keyboard when on charge.

Whats the best way to demonstrate the problem in the store and then the quickest way to test it instore when it comes back from repair.

I was going to use multitouch visualiser 2 but now that I've flashed it to stock I have no market to download it? I downloaded it onto my phone thinking I could then just copy it across but I can't find the apk file on the phone?

Thanks for any help - I know this is probably quite a noobie question for some of you!

Cheers,

worto.

Install Muttitouch Visualier from the market - shows the problem really well.

Or open a search box and type...that was enough for me as if I typed aaaaa I got aazAaaAaa (or similar)

lol - yeah the typing thing is the backup plan - I had trouble just getting through the setup wizard when I first got it & was wondering what the hell was going on until I found this place!

Installing from the market is my whole problem really because I've reset it to stock so they can't blame the custom rom but now I have no market & when it comes back from repair I want to show easily in the shop that the problem is still there - I thought I'd be able to just run it from a usb stick somehow, I'm sure I've read that other people have demoed it in the shop after repair using multitouch but I can't work out how.

See if you can find the .APK and copy it onto an SD card, when you're in the shop chuck the SD card in and install the .APK using a file browser.

Edit: Try and find the APK on the net or something else..... (wink wink)

original ganjaman has created an apk file in xda forum if you do a search that just install smarket onto stock rom so no reflashing of the rom.

that should do it

I don't have market anymore though now that I've reflashed it to stock and am looking for a way to easily install something like touchtest or multitouch when I'm in the shop to prove if they have fixed it or not while I'm instore.

I can't find that apk file so I've sent original ganjaman an PM hopefully he'll be able to point me to it.

Try software update #7 on the first page of this thread to get the market apk.:

There have been a number of vega owners who have had this problem with the touchscreen including me. No amount of reflashing, (which seems to be all the folks from 'don't know how' seem to be capable of), sorts it out.

Take it back to the store and make sure they haven't just flashed the rom. I know, they sent mine back 3 times and never fixed it before giving me a new vega and it took 2 months.

Make sure you check it when it is back from repair with a copy of multitouch, etc that you have on an sd card and make sure you check IN THE STORE if you can.

It may depend on the battery level as to how "bad" the problem is. On my Vega when the battery is lower than 100% the problem is not easy to see even with Multi Touch Visualiser. Also diffrent areas of the screen are more badly affected than others. There may also be an effect related to the relitive position of the charge cable.

At 100% charge it easy to see the problem.

When the battery is charging (less than 100%) it seems to smooth out some of what I think is RF interference from the PSU which I expect is "switch mode" with little if any filtering.

Maybe of no help but just my thoughts.

Thanks flshg - found it after getting my head round adb and used the

adb pull /data/app c:\osf

to pull all of the apk's from my phone to my laptop then I could copy the apk I needed to 2 SD cards (using the adb push) the one I'm sending it back with and a spare one - now when it comes back from repair even if they have wiped my sd card all I have to do is stick in my other card and test :)

finally - I can take it back on the way home tonight now :)

cheers for everyones input!

worto.

edit - I've been testing it today and it's worse than I thought even when not charging the bottom left corner of the screen is very erratic.

Mine is generally fine when charging, but is essentially unusable when it in a stand at 30 degrees (i.e the optimal viewing angle) and goes mental when the usb is connected. Have been putting up with it but it is getting really irritating now. Keep us posted as to what happens in terms of repair/replacement as there may not be much stock (if any) left.

OK no probs, will do, I'll update here - you might want to subscribe to the thread though I'm expecting it to take around a month to sort out as most people seem to be getting it back either untouched or just reflashed to stock with the problem still there, then it goes off again for them to try again - by their own policy though if they can't repair it after 28 days they offer a full refund or new replacement - if they can't replace it I'd take a refund but I'd be happy with a working one to be honest.

The cause is already known; the stock UK mains PSUs are weedy rubbish, they don't supply enough power, so cause the touch screen to be swamped with noise.

I've proved that the UK stock PSU is at fault by trying extra DC smoothing, which made no difference, then using a quality 12V 3A switched mode mains PSU to power the tablet via a DC power plug transplanted from the stock PSU, so now the touch screen is no longer unusable when charging.

The Dixons group should recall all the Vega mains PSUs and replace them with more powerful PSUs which are fit for purpose!

OK - 1st update it was picked up from the store for repair on the 18th of July, I got the call this morning to say it had been repaired and was ready for collection after being tested instore and confirmed OK.

So I've just got back from the store and it still has the same fault - it looks like they have just reflashed it.

I've been told that they will have to send it away for repair again but that if it's not all sorted by 18th\19th of August then they will give me store credit towards another product. I guess thats where the fun will start as they have no vega's in stock so I'd have to put another £150-£200 of my own money in from what I can tell to get something I'd want to replace the vega - unless they can get me another vega.

If they can't get me another Vega I'll be after a refund.

Right,

I'm not sure if anyone is following this anymore but I did say I'd update so here goes.

They never could repair it (tried 3 times but kept just reflashing it!) so today they refunded the price I paid for it and sold me a new one for £199 which is great because now I have a nice new 12 month warranty too.

Main problem is that the new one does the same - it's a brand new one - still sealed and they had none in stock a few weeks ago so must be new stock but it still behaves exactly the same - when charging the screen is pretty much unusable for typing.

At least I have a new warranty now so I've got a month to decide if I want to put up with it or get a refund and wait for some other tabs to drop - almost put the extra £100 in for a transformer but couldn't justify it in the end.

I'll do some forum searches for PSU problems & try out a different PSU - I think there was one from argos people we saying worked a lot better but I didn't really want one that had a voltage adjuster thing - I have 2 young kids and didn't want them to change it and blow the tablet up - or them of course ;-)

Anyway glad to have my baby back for now :) gonna try out Corvus5 - was on Modaco r8 before.

Any 12v positive centre, 1 amp or better supply with the right plug will do but, the cheaper it is, the more likely you will see the same problem which is caused by electromagnetic interference from the cable. One cheap solution you could try is to get a ferrite core something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TDK-MINI-FERRITE-CLAMP-CABLES-LEADS-UP-5-5mm-/300587952164?pt=UK_ConsumerElectronics_SpecialistRadioEquipment_SM&hash=item45fc702824

Alternatively, a cheap ferrite ring placed as close to the power plug as possible with a knot tied around it to hold in place.

thanks for the reply, I tried a ferrite ring yesterday and it made no difference, to be honest this vega seems worse than my last one!

It's better in the bottom left corner but on charge or not the screen is not responsive enough and if you try to draw a straight line from one point to another there are breaks in it for no reason resulting in dropping icons when moving them etc etc.

I think I'm gonna take it back, stick the money to one side and wait to see what the vega v2 is like or for one of the other tablets I like to drop - the eee transformer is around £50 too much for me at the moment.

Oh well it's been a fun device for 6 months and definitely got me hooked on android!

Thanks for all the help\advice\mods\ROMs (thats aimed at everyone on this forum!)

worto.

EDIT - WHOOOO! Screen calibration fixed the problem - still rubbish while charging but at least I've not traded in for a worse one.
