Guest neil192 Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 Hi Everyone I have just had a disaster with my Vega, a cup has just fallen onto the screen and cracked the glass, i can still see the back group and the touch screen seems to be working. As a complete noob to this is there a layer of glass then the screen or is it all in one, and most importantly can it be replaced. Thanks for any help Neil
Guest Unipete Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 The screen and glass appear to be one single unit. there are some other threads about this saying that the cost of replacement is almost the same as buying a new vega. you might want to try your house insurance.
Guest Unipete Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 Post #9 in this thread gives you an idea. http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v.../broke-my-vega/
Guest MaxiP Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 (edited) I can completely empathise - last night, my Vega slipped off the table where it was streaming to the TV and the screen got cracked / broken / etc on the edge of either the TV cabinet or another table. VERY unhappy camper this morning edit - done a bit more reading and have yet to find a thread where someone has successfully replaced a damaged screen. Came across this replcaement Advent Vega glass - anyone any ideas if this make / model has been trued ? Edited July 9, 2011 by MaxiP

Guest MaxiP Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 The case is the 'new' official Advent case. The big difference is that the Vega is inserted at the top and there is a flap above the camera cutout that folds behind the Vega to keep it in place. Works very well, apart from when you drop the Vega onto something hard / sharp !

Came across this replcaement Advent Vega glass - anyone any ideas if this make / model has been trued ? Er that's the screen. Glass doesn't have a resolution and it clearly states NO TOUCHPANEL GLASS. The touch panel is bonded to the glass as they are specifically made for such devices. That unit is now junk.

AFAIK, the glass & touchpanel / digitizer are separate units and can be changed independently of each other.
Guest Unipete Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 (edited) ADVENT VEGA 10.1 LAPTOP SCREEN NO TOUCHPANEL GLASS I read that as the screen and NOT the glass. As said above, glass does not have a resolution. The screen does. Maybe it would read properly if they'd put a comma in the title just after the word screen. Edited July 9, 2011 by Unipete

The screen is bonded onto the digitiser and glass but comes away fairly easily with a bit of patience. have a look on ebay for one with a duff screen and change your glass for the good one.

The unit still works perfectly, including the touch screen, but ofcourse it looks horrible with all those glass cracks. My question is, are you saying that if i purchase the unit you linked to that will include the actual lcd display, the digitizer and the glass front ? Reason i ask is because my lcd part is fine and on another thread there was a link to just the digitizer alone, unfotunately it was from taiwan if i remember correctly.

Guest Vega Tech Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 Ok pc world do a fault and fix service this costs £50 to uplift the vega to there workshop where they will diagnose it. However u wont get this £50 pound back as this covers insurance delivery and to diagnose it. But the screen replacement for this model is £108 so all in ur looking at about £160 so not far of a new one. Its up to you. Also the glass and the digitizer are glued together, yes u can get it off but will never be the same and will or might very well effect your touchscreen YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

No ignore that post as they are helpfully explaining how to replace the screen itself when no one in ths thread has actually asked how to do that
