Guest readbmr Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 (edited) Hi,ok im realy new to this as ive just gone the android way from my existing iphone 4. i now have a basic htc Hero android 2.1 and am now stuck on the flash back up recovery bit as it wont backup, what am i doing wrong and can somebody point me in the right direction as im totally confused now how to root my android, im hoping somebody o here can help me step by step as ive been trying for a week now with no luck, please please help me root it as im now reading to many google articles relating to this and its making me go crazy!! hope to get some help soon, from Brian Edited July 11, 2011 by readbmr

Try superoneclickroot or something like that, one click and your phone is rooted. For X10 we have the Flashtool, Idk if it works on HTC, but on that one it's also just 1 click and that's it.

Basically you flash the correct base with flashtool and flash the custom rom with xrecovery. If you give me a link to what rom you want, I might be able to help though.

Hi and thankyou, you have been realy helping me with this, heres where i am at last, ive now managed to root the htc hero and install the chronos rom, but when i select it through my phone in recovery all im getting is a "chronos" across the phone and its not loading, i had to take the battery out for 15 mins and reinstall my original backup, any help please why "chronos 2.4.4 is not loading correctly ? thankyou and hope to hear soon from Brian

And if my posts help you, please click the green (+) on the posts and you will help me aswell. ^_^ Help still needed Please, Hi and just to let you no im trying to download the apps i need from android market but its not letting me, ive even used pc and phone but with no luck, also my htc is not working from within my pc as its now not reconising my htc hero, is it because im using chronos 2.2.4 ? Any help please again as i realy want to reinstall all my previous apps and sms messages, oh lastly is there any weather themes, ie live weather themes like that were on the original 2.1 firmware on the home screen? Guest readbmr Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 still needing help but now begginning to understand it slightly, ok ive just installed zip file called "Gapps" and i have just installed it in recovery mode, ok all im getting is a welcome to htc hero sceen with a message saying please touch the green android to begin, but all im getting is nonthing else as it keeps coming back, should i have erased all data again and done a fresh install, if this is the case which one do i install 1st from fresh? is it chronos 2.2.4 and then the "gapps" app or have i maybe just downloaded the wrong "GAPPS" ? Please help me, thankyou again from Brian..

Please help me, thankyou again from Brian.. Well, you should try to whipe everything: cache, data, system, dalvik and battery. (Dtaa + system = Factory Reset, Cache = Whipe Cache Partiton, Dalvik and Battery stats are found under 'advanced') Then install cronos and then Gapps. Hope this helps ~Blaven
