Guest Anil k Solanki Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 (edited) Hi, I have discovered that sometimes the Gmail app shows contact pictures sometimes it doesn't, weird. If anyone else is having this issue or not, please report back with specs of your ROM, and which version of Gmail you're using. Thanks. Anil. PS. I have already posted this question in the general ANDROID software forum. But because it might be hardware/ROM related other Blades users' experience would be helpful. Guest bennebiest Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 As of today I'm on CM7.1.0-RC1-Kang (n126plus) and GMail doesn't show pictures. (GMail v 2.3.4.1). I think that GSF does showed pictures/avatars in the GMail app, but not sure (I have a very short memory) :-)
Guest Anil k Solanki Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 Hi bennebiest, my screen shots were taken 5 mins apart. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I am on Cyanogen N#127. Weird. Thanks. Anil.
Guest Shadoe Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Hi, does anyone have an Update or a fix.... Tim

Thanks. Anil. Sounds like a caching issue, the images that are cached are not being shown, maybe look around in there and wipe the cache and try again, or quite possibly there is not enough space for the caching of images and hence fail and fall back on the default android logo. I would even be inclined to think, that the cache is stored on SDCard somewhere, and as its vFAT system, there is a limit in number of files in a directory at any one time. Since you stated you are on N127 - that's pretty old... why not try the latest nightly 147 (judging by the popularity stakes according to Rom Manager) B)

And since my post 3 weeks ago, Gmail has been updated and the quirk still exists. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Going through email in Gmail one by one, a contact picture will randomly show up, go to the next email, then go back and that email's contact picture no longer shows up, all within the space of 2 seconds. Cache issue? I have no idea, but my guess would be a database issue, but that's just a guess. Anil.

Hey Anil, Try this: Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, Tap 'All', look for the 'Contacts Storage', tap that, tap on 'Clear Data' and let the handset re-sync the contacts again? Cheers.
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 (edited) have you tried the app (don't remember the name sorry) which increase the sd cache to 2048 ? edit : oki sd speed increase in market Edited August 2, 2011 by Phoenix Silver

Cheers. Hi t0mm13b, thanks for your suggestion. I tried it, after a Nandroid back up, and I synched with Google, sorry, no difference. It must be a Gmail problem, because other non-Google apps pull contact pictures just fine. Which gives me a thought, why not try another email app, simply to test the theory, right I'm off to the marketplace. Again, thanks. Anil. Update; I can't find another email app that shows contact pictures. It seems Gmail is the only free mail app with that feature, ironic. Edited August 2, 2011 by Anil k Solanki

I do use SD Speed Increase. In fact I have created a new icon for the app, must send it to the Dev. Thanks. Anil. Edited August 2, 2011 by Anil k Solanki

Guest Anil k Solanki Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 Anil K Solanki i have the same problem as you. Did you manage to solve it? Hi Andro0, this seems to be a quirk with the Gmail app. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I have tried several tweaks/fixes, nothing worked. It seems we will just have to live with it. Anil.
