Guest xanadu Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 "SPV ROM Update What is it? The SPV ROM update is a software update for the SPV and provides the user with some performance enhancements. As the SPV uses Microsoft Software this can be likened to upgrading your home PC from Windows 98 to Windows XP for example. This allows the customer to take advantage of software developments, which are designed to improve the SPV performance. The main benefits of this update are: :: Improved performance i.e. general speed :: Improved battery life :: 2 new applications :: Picture Manager (allows the customer to view and store pictures in one place) :: Sound Manager (allows the customer to create and store sounds which can then be used as ringtones or alerts) :: Ability to use the SPV as a USB modem How does it work Customers need to visit www.orange.co.uk and download the update to their PC and then transfer the file onto their SPV. The SPV will then be updated, this process will take approximately 10 minutes For more in depth details on how to do this please refer customers to the SPV Update help section on the Orange website. What does it cost This update is supplied to the customer free of charge What to do If the customer is reporting poor battery life or general performance issues please advise the customer to visit the Website and upgrade the software. If the customer is unable to access the Internet then please follow the standard replacement process, remembering to advise the customer that the replacement will not currently have the new software version"

Guest xanadu Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 can you quote the source of this, or is it 'secret' or just your view? Will This is not my view, but from a source within Orange. There is still no date yet.

Guest paulend Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 i just got off the fone with 150, and the woman said that the update will be soon, which is good! but she said that the phone is gonna be updated automatically over the air with out the user knowing? any ideas!?
Guest madu Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 I doubt it will happen without us knowing - it is 12MB FFS!!! So if 'without knowing' your battery is in critical condition and it dies during update - ermmmmm. [DONOTHAVETOREAD] She probably does not know s**t about it. I hate that they have tech-illiterate people dealing with technical issues!! I can set up my own CS centre for SPV and will do a much better job, just as most of us here.. And Morpheus - what the hell happened to that guy?? He promised us news and help from first hands and eventually what? F*** ALL. I personally am V pissed off with their attitude but knowing that I'm in power to do nothing about it - do absolutely nothing about it!! hehe. Just fix my own probs and share it with others. Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 It's a fine balance between CYA ("cover your arse") and CS - ("customer service") 15X operatives are NOT supposed to tell you ANYTHING "unofficial". That is, if they've not got it in black and white on a screen in front of them, then they're NOT supposed to speculate, quote from non-approved sites, press comments, or info leaked to the public by other departments. That would work a LOT better if internal communications were more efficient - i.e. the info that they DO have in front of them was up to date. When someone rings and asks "when is the update going to be released, and HOW?" you're faced with an interesting dilemma. DO you admit that you have no idea (and look like a total no-hoper, not exactly enhancing the company's image by doing so!) or do you let slip what you've found out elsewere? (like here! Or maybe you heard it heard from a colleague who seems to know a lot, because he frequents this site) My guess is that Orange will get around to officially informing their 15X staff one or two days before the upgrade is released... or possibly one or two days afterwards. Try to remember that the 15X operative is trying to do the best they can with what info they have available to them. If that's not enough... taking it out on THEM doesn't help you, them OR the next caller. They're probably as p*ssed off about it as YOU are. Nobody likes looking like an idiot.
Guest madu Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 Big Ron - agreed! It is not really individuals we are talking about here, but O as a commercial service *provider* - they must get their act together!! (especially for the money we pay!)
Guest Rog Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 Any body else subscribed to the sms update alerts? I have had, since November, one alert in December. Perhaps they aren't telling that (automated?) service anything either! :)
Guest xanadu Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 http://www.whatmobile.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7472 A user reported here that his SPV has been returned from repair with the new updated software on it. I doubt this very much, as Orange will be telling people that even if they get a replacement phone, it will still need to be updated. Maybe this is why they appear to be delaying the new ROM update, as they are going to upgrade all the stock first ?
Guest Treadsoftly Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 Yes, I thought so too, but just posting here for information and debate :>
