Guest glenny3868 Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 hi i really don't know a lot about android tablets but ive managed to flash my Vega with the r8 ROM but every time i plug a USB device or hard drive into the port nothing happens its in USB mode is there something else i should or can do for them to be recognized please someone give me some help, thanks very much.
Guest dibbles Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 Have a search and read about the Host / Slave function of the USB port and how to switch from one to another. This can only be done at boot and is needed depending on what you are plugging into the device. I have not needed to use it but AFAIK if you press and keep hold of the back key as you start up the Vega from a cold boot then that will switch modes.

USB mode cannot be selected at boot with r8. I recommend installing Corvus5. It has many improvements over r8 including the ability to select USB mode at boot, as dibbles says.

I was just reading about the Corvus ROM and then popped back to this thread to note.... Added the brilliant Host/Slave mode indicator to the ROM as standard (made by simonta and pbtw I believe) which has been GRID themed by me to fit in with the ROM. ...I use the Corvus ROM with SP1 and the Honeycomb theme. I have also set the DPI to 120 and, as far as I am concerned, along with 1.4ghz overclock the Vega is about as perfect as I think that it will ever get.! I have just noted Simonta that you have contributed to that feature :) Edited July 17, 2011 by dibbles
Guest glenny3868 Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 hi is it easy enough to install the Corvus 5 ROM anyone.
Guest IanTurner Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 hi is it easy enough to install the Corvus 5 ROM anyone. If you go into the app page then in r8 there should be a usb app (just called usb with the standard usb sign) which will allow you to swap modes. Mind you someone else installed r8 and claimed they couldn't find it.

Guest glenny3868 Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 Hold the back button while powering up till you see two penguins apparently thanks i will give it a try.
Guest sharpe750 Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 I've tried that and it jut turns itself off when the penguines appear and you release the back button. What a stupid idea to have a usb port and it doesn't work properly. thanks i will give it a try.

Ermm, on modaco R8 go to your apps, look for usb mode app and click it, select usb host and the vega will reboot, once it's booted, plug in your usb flash drive and wait for a min, then go to ifile manager and you should see your usb flash drive, job done. The R8 if installed properly has usb mode for host and slave, if you need to connect to your pc with the vega, do the same as above and select usb slave.

Guest simonta Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 What a stupid idea to have a usb port and it doesn't work properly. To be fair, the USB port works fine. It's simply defaulted to slave. There are good arguments for having the default as slave, as there are for host. My guess is that the original designers figured the most used scenario would be people copying files to there Vegas from a PC for which you need slave. If newbe5 is lurking, what would it take to bribe you into producing an option for Corvus5 to default to host????? ;)
